I think the bins are a good idea, but you need to label them (e.g. A-D, E-H, etc.), so you don't have to scurry around looking for the right discs.

I don't have as large a collection, but I keep 'em alphabetized and I also have 'em all listed on an Excel spreadsheet to track 'em... Victory! Peace!
