i watched the first episode only then to realise the rating was 18.7%!
i thought with a plot and story like that, it would be a 8.7%.

anyway talking about bad english, when i was watching the drama, initially i thought oguri shun was speaking in french or spanish (some language which i completely don't understand). I was really shock that it was actually english!

the first episode was really disappointing... i had to replay certain scenes after i dozed off on some parts...

18%... wasn't that the about the same rating Boss got for its first episode 2 seasons ago? almost similar theme (police, investigation, etc), and equally bad plot, at least one had humor that was really funny. and speaking about cast chemistry, i felt as though oguri, hiro and yuriko were doing their own drama individually.

sigh~~~~~ what's wrong with drama nowadays???

yeh well this sort of english is ok for japanese people who can`t speak english that well cus thats wot my frends said but as a person who can speak english, oguri shun`s pronounciation sounds as if he`s taking the piss...(mabye a little harsh?) i just dont understand why they didnt mizushima hiro speak english??!!!! hes fluent for god sake!!!

mate no need to get angry ok? evryone has their own views. And concerning the actors/actresses who can speak english reletavely well; Kimutaku is not amazing but he can speak in a manner that audiences dont find too uneasing. Also Katori Shingo can speak a bit too. Watanabe Ken can speak briliantly well having starred in Hollywood films like the last samurai and batman. (he`s good friends with tom cruise) Mizushima Hiro can speak natively and obviously everyone knows that. Yuki Kidoh can speak english as well having starred in hollywood films so yeh its not like there are none. But it`s true that there are a few actors who can speak good english in japan.
uumm, and also just to clear things up, i dont mind if the actors cant speak good english but the thing is i dont think TOKYO DOGS actually did everything they cud to make the first 20 or so minutes as authentic as possible for the viewers.

I find this drama to be quite dumb but it did provide me with a few laughs (Shun ). Its like Hanakimi with guns but less humour. I think if they replaced Hiro with Ikuta Toma it'll be more watchable.

I watched the first episode, I really didn't think it was that bad. Especially since its on such an integral part of the drama. I will still be watching it.

I�Lm not angry (sorry if it was looking like that ), it�Ls just hard for japanese ppl to speak proper english, and his english wasn�Lt worse than from other japanese actors.

btw. Hiro is horrible, mostly because of the writing for his character (at least that�Ls what i think). He isn�Lt very funny. I like the other Characters, especially Shun plays very well.

oh ok thats fine then,,,misunderstanding! i thought u were getting angry at me!! PEACE but yeh i agree it is difficult fr japanses people to speak english well but it just didnt click for me with oguri shun`s overall acting in the 1 st part. (still think hes an awesome actor)

but yeh i also think mizushima hiro`s character is pretty appaling in this one! ASHAME!

@ KAZdoramma: No misunderstanding here. I know it's not about dissing people who aren't fluent in English. But if you're an actor, you just can't fake language fluency--unlike playing an instrument or a sport, where clever editing can make you look good. If a J-actor clearly doesn't understand a single word of his English dialogue, then why write his character as someone fluent in that language? It diminishes the character's integrity and detracts from the credibility of the performance. (Never mind the accent; many respected Asian actors like Tony Leung Chiu Wai or Lee Byung-hun can speak straight, if accented English. Besides, nothing's more grating on the ears than a phony American accent. )

OHNOES!!!!! But I hated the treatment of HANA KIMI!!!! (Hmmm, Toma for Hiro, though... )

Thank you Ender`s girl, u just said wot i wanted to say from the beginning. u clarified it. I just wasnt happy with the fact that oguri shun was made to act under the scenario of being able to speak english "fluently" when he`s cant be. This made the 1st part of the dorama unauthentic!!!

this dorama is not bad at all...I can watch Shun with another character,,in my opinion he is very GOOD here...
about his English,,I guess it's just the accent,,well at least he tried his best...
