I just read that article too.

Boy I really don't get why some people think these "dramas" have to be historically accurate. If I want real history, I would just read books or watch documentaries, and who is to say that those are 100% accurate, too?

I also read the original JP article on J-Cast:
http://www.j-cast.com/2011/02/25089097.html?p=all

How is her portrayal of Gou a "baka-hime"? Good grief, it's a freaking "drama." It's a, to a certain point, historical fiction. It's made to entertain, not to teach history. One would be a fool to believe everything in those Taiga dramas to be 100% real. So why expect Gou to be as such?

This story is on Gou, and there is very little information on the childhood part of her life, of course many things have to be made up. Or maybe those people just wanted Tabuchi to skip Gou's entire childhood? That's not possible with Saji Kazunari being part of her life during this time.

And I saw some criticisms (not in this article, though) that Hideyoshi is made to act like a fool. In the Taiga's I've watched, all Hideyoshi's have acted like goof-balls in some way, shape, or form. Goof-balls can be wise, and Kishitani Goro's Hideyoshi has really shown his wiseness, especially in the recent episodes.

I am a history buff myself (though mostly on the Chinese side, I didn't start reading about the Sengoku era until about 8 years ago), but I believe myself to be open-minded enough to watch these dramas while not expecting everything to be true to history.

Like I mentioned before, I just started watching Nodame, I think she plays the two roles very differently. Seriously, I can't wait for her Gou character to grow into adulthood and let her acting really shut those people up.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm being entertained and will continue watching, but just had to get the above outta my chest.

/rant off

BTW, Oda Nobunaga's childhood name is "Kichiboshi g@t," only one word different from his grandson "Sanboshi O@t," who will later be Oda Hidenobu.

Thanks for the unbiased rant. Victory! Peace! Applaud

I could go off as well, but it's so well documented that I'm a fanboy of hers, people would just ignore my comments as biased rants.

I need to read up on Hideyoshi... Is he really that eccentric? Sweat

Because then we'd have something like what Hong Kong produces. Nobunaga rolling into battle in a car, his army with semiautomatic guns, Tom Cruise saving the day.....

In the adaptations I've watched, each actor has his own way of portraying Hideyoshi's eccentricity. Some does more, some does less. Kishiani Goro is one of those on the "more" side, lol.

Boys around the age of mid-teens would have their coming-of-age ceremony (genpuku ), and this is when they changed from their childhood names to adult/samurai names.

On the naming, often the boy will inherite one character from the father/adoptive father's name. Example:
Oda Nobuhide => Oda Nobunaga => Oda Nobutada => Oda Hidenobu (Sanboshi).

In some clans, only the eldest son could inherit the character at a specific part of the name (as in inheriting the character for the first or second word of his name). Take the Mori clan of Chugoku as an example:
Mori Hiromoto => Mori Motonari (second son) => Mori Takamoto (eldest) => Mori Terumoto (eldest)

I'll say. Sweat

Hideyoshi's "antics" seem to upset the flow of the story, IMO... Much more than adults portraying children... Wink

I'm not that bothered by him (yet), because I hope the plan is for him to straighten up from now on and so show his growth. Having lost his master he should be now at a turning point. ...

A Japanese Actor,Yasuo Daichi, who performed in the drama "Go Himetachi no Sengoku" Katsuie Shibata,Go's stepfather talked about Juri Ueno and her acting as a princess Go.

He said "Juri Ueno faithfully performed the post. She did not do a useless speaking. She was worried reading a script for a long time.I couldn't understand whether Juri Ueno was worried to think about acting or Go herself was worried".

Additionally,he said"Juri Ueno is very serious about her work unusually and is very hopeful. She can take care with surroundings and is good actor."
