KIKU-TV is in Hawaii and they typically do the subbing for the Taiga dramas, which end up being broadcast here in SoCal, KSCI-18.2... Not sure if they're official, but the (hard)subs are legitimate, since it is broadcast over the air. Smile

The downside is that the local broadcast station doesn't have the bandwidth, so it's only in SD Grumble ...I'm guessing someone at D-Addicts from Hawaii will be recording these broadcasts and uploading them... In HD.

Ahh I see. I went to Kiku's website and Gou isn't even on their program list yet. But on their FB page it appears that the first episode aired on Feb 15.

Do tell us how the translation is Bow It's one way for me to gauge my proficiency. Fingers crossed

I just finished watching the broadcast of Episode 1, Part 1 (they split Episode 1 into two parts, so there were LOTS of commercials Shake Head ) and the translations are by MTI, not KIKU-TV as I had first thought.

Though the broadcast is not in HD, it is still in widescreen, made to fit in a SD (4:3) frame, so at least the video isn't truncated. Victory! Peace!

Your translations are quite comparable to the MTI ones, the only differences I noticed:

1. There are no explanations for some terms (takes up too much space in the screen, I think)
2. The title of the Taiga is just Princess Go.
3. The Hepburn Romanization of "Go" is used, instead of "Gou."
4. Dates, locations, and names indicated by text on the screen are indicated in boldface and uppercase: "ODA NOBUNAGA," "SEPTEMBER 1583," "OMI PROVINCE," etc...
5. Cast names have their family names in boldface and uppercase: "UENO Juri," "MIYAZAWA Rie," etc....

I've just finished wathing "Gou"this week.

I think this drama is not histrical drama but family drama.

Yasuo Daichi who acts Katsuie Shibata was very good.Juri was good, too.

^ All Taigas are dramas based on historical characters and events, and are not historical documentaries, which most people seem to forget. Sweat

Hmm, so much for the criticism of Juri-chan's acting.

I second that anyway. Mr Green
That (slanderous!) article might have raised curiosity for the drama, though.

Possibly.

Though judging from some of those comments, I don't think any of those fools would be curious enough to watch.

Thanks! It's good to know that those are the major differences, and not the story itself.

I've watched MTI's subbed Furin Kazan, so I know exactly what you mean above.

^ Indeed Sad

For the meantime this week's BEGIN Japanology episode is about The Fragrances of Japan and it also explains Kōdō, the traditional incense-smelling ceremony seen in episode 04:
