I've just started watching "Brother Beat"

http://jdorama.com/drama.964.htm

Ahhh. Sigh of relief. It looks like it's gonna be fun.

As Ralph mentioned a few pages ago, Ryoko Kuninaka makes anything worth the disc.

And for me, any show with Misako Tanaka in it is worth taking the time to watch.

It's great to see the choice she made for this show. After years of playing the perfect woman, the perfect girlfriend/wife/lover/mother... she seems to be going the Jun Fubuki route this time, playing the "good old broad" for laughs.

A lovely woman, in her 40's, perfectly comfortable in her own skin.

I'm not looking for greatness here, but after 2 episodes I do think I'm gonna enjoy it.

My brother enjoyed this one quite a bit as well, and again because Ryoko made it worth the watch. It's on my list Smile

I'm currently watching Tokyo Friends. Finished the first epi. Ai-chan should stick with singing... Sweat

Wyn-chan! Wash your mouth out! Wink

Seriously though, I thought she acted well, considering she's a novice. If you ever see her performing live, you'll see that she's a lot more bubbly in real life. The series definitely gets better after the first episode though.

LOL. I liked Tokyo Friends overall. I guess the only thing that bugs me is

Click on button to reveal/hide spoiler:

And Eita's hair. My god, didn't he ever heard of a thing called a brush?

Monika,

The movie doesn't rule out the possibility of a sequel or another movie. I'm hoping Fingers crossed

Awwwww, I read the spoiler. Oh well. Mr Green I hate those types of endings tho, but if that's the case, they probably WILL make a sequel.

And I didn't say I didn't like the show. I think the premise is good so far. And I understand that Ai-chan is a novice, but even novices have talent. >>runs from A-Oyaji's wrath<<

lol but she's cute and dresses cool, and not entirely painful to watch.

Give it time, Wyn-chan. Ai-chan will win you over Smile

And if you get to the end of the series, be sure to get the movie too. Smile

That's tame compared to his hair-style in "Nodame Cantabile" as Mine Ryutaro.

Same here. I really want a sequel.

Lol. That's true. At least in Nodame it fits to his character. At some point in Tokyo Friends, I really wanted Ai to attack him with a brush.

He usually has big hair. He had big hair in Sapuri as well. It was tamer in Orange Days.

On Topic: Watching epi 2 of Tokyo Friends right now! Victory! Peace!

Wynter

I didn't think much of Tokyo Friends.

And Ai-chan was completely out of her depth. Having a couple of pop hits doesn't make you an actress, and it sure as heck doesn't give you the ability to carry a show as it's lead.

HOWEVER!!!

"Tokyo Friends" introduced me to Yoko Maki - she plays Ryoko, the depressed OL - and for that I'll be forever grateful.

By the third episode she simply took the show away from Ai.

Outrageously beautiful woman. Best young actress I've seen in years. And at the time of the show, I think she was 22.

Ignore the rest. They're after-thoughts. Keep your eye on Yoko "Ryoko" Maki for the rest of the show.

HOWEVER

On the topic of Yoko Maki, I agree. I even started a thread about her: http://www.jdorama.com/viewtopic.10027.htm Seriously neglected, due to a shortage of info and photos on the net Sad

I thought Rio Matsumoto was good too, although her character didn't give her much of a chance to shine.
