I'm watching Heaven's Coins"

And since it's Thanksgiving here in the U.S., I wanted to take a moment to say how thankful I am for what Elton is doing over at Studio Oto.

For the most part, with a series as old as "HEaven's Coins", the best we can hope for, over here, is a raw copy, or a VCD with laughable computer generated subtitles, or if we're lucky, someone's old VHS copy that has subs, but now looks like you're trying to watch it through a fish bowl, while jumping up and down on one leg.

As he's doing with a number of other series, Elton got hold of a crystal clear, broadcast quality copy of the raw series. Then he came up with a good translation, did the timing and encoding himself, and did a damned professional looking job of subtitling the whole series.

And then he made it available!

Granted, "Heaven's Coins" is a little schmatlzy for my tastes. But that's not the point. The point is, he preserveed, restored, and in short, saved the series, so that it can been seen by fans of Japanese Dorama for years to come.

And I think that's something to be thankful for.

I know Amrayu has put together another group to do basically the same thing with some other series, so while I'm at it, I'd like to thank her as well.

It's not a question on whether your bed is big enough or not, it's rather a question on whether you can handle 4 women at once! Bleah hehe hehe hehe

I've seen the first two episodes and the jury is still out for me but I have to admit that this appears to be an original show. I'm hoping that it gets somewhat better though because even tho it's a romantic comedy it seems somewhat unbelieveable at the moment. I will admit Koyuki looks radiantly beautiful and her character has got style for miles! I know some those outfits she wears must be in the thousands of dollars. The fashion is very becoming on her. She looks graceful.

I just started watching "Tokyo Love Story" and in a great bit of timing, local TV is showing "Last Christmas". And there's a nice little inside joke going on here.

In 1991's "Tokyo Love Story" Oda was playing a guy named Kanchi who'd just come to Tokyo and started working for a company called, "Heart Sport".

In this year's "Last Christmas" he's a project manager named Kenji, working for a company called, "Heart Sport".

They even did the same little race through town in the white van to deliver the goods, and save the fashion show.

Not living in Japan I usually miss a lot of side referances in shows, and inside jokes.

The referance to the old show is probably nothing more than a wink and a tip of the hat to the loyal audience in Japan. But it's nice to finally get one of the inside jokes.
