I'm on the 5th episode of Odoru Daisosomething (I promise to remember the titles by the end of this drama!) and I'm really enjoying it a lot. The subtle humor is great, the characters are wonderful (this is the first time that I've ever liked Yanagiba Toshiro in a drama), and I'm slowly liking Oda Yuji a bit more.
Yes, cori!!! Glad you like it!!! I'm hardly an expert on dramas, but so far, there are only 3 dramas I've given a "10". Long Vacation, Shomuni2, and Odoru Daisousassen For me, this one is all about the cast, it is perfect, it's just one of those magical things that all too rarely happens, I can't imagine another actor in any of those roles.

Sugoi, now I'm getting hyped. I think this one is next on my watch list. I'll have to check. If not, it's second.
My bro saw it before me and said the same thing as you. He absolutely loved it (thanks shin!).
In the meantime, I'm at episode 6 of Wedding Planner, which I'm also enjoying. _________________

I'm on the 8th episode of Odoru Daisousomething (hey, I'm getting better at remembering the title!) and is it too soon to say that I'm not just enjoying this show, I'm actually loving it? The opening of this episode just had me cracking up because
Click on button to reveal/hide spoiler:
the cops were being uncharacteristically gung-ho about working (lots of shouting, upbeat energy, everyone bright-eyed and bushy-tailed) only to find out they were doing it for the benefit of their children who had a "visit dad at work day". Then after the kids left, they went back to their lethargic ways, just kicking back while ignoring an annoucement that there was someone in an injury. Another pricelessly hilarious moment.

Make sure to watch the movies too, they are excellent bookends to the series itself, and...yea, they're just awesome!
Oh, and it took me a while before I remembered it was Daisousasen (watch it enough you'll remember). If you want to make it easier on yourself, you could go off it's US Title (yes, they showed it over here, and with subs no less!), Rhythm and Police.
I'll be sure to watch the movies after I finish the drama. As for the English title, eh, I'd rather stick to the Jp title if I can remember it. "Rhythm and Police" just sounds too silly.

Aren't you glad you finally came over to the dark side? Hehe.

I'm not generous with my "10"s either. I think I gave less than 5 dramas the highest ranking. Hell, there were even some dramas that I absolutely loved and I only gave them a "9" because of various reasons. Odoru might rank a "9" with me, and this is only from watching 8 episodes.

Yeah, you should really watch it. Just don't expect too much from the first episode. I wasn't all that impressed by it, but the other episodes quickly made up for it. _________________

So, now that I'm done with Nodame, what would be a good follow up? Or should I read this thread some more?
Definitely post in the recommendations thread like beem said and be specific about what type of drama you want to see. Hopefully I or someone else could suggest a good one. _________________

Yea, so episodes 4-6...?
...I lied, I watched all the way up to Episode 10! Couldn't help myself, had nothing better to do, the series is very compelling, and I had the free time. Sets myself up for the finale tonight and then moving into the next series (Coin-toss between Wedding Planner and Proposal Daisakusen really, which would you guys think I should do first?).

Yeah, I never could figure out where they got that from. I always preferred the title they used for the movies "Bayside Shakedown" sounds more like a police series that way.

"Rhythm and Police" is actually the name of an instrumental song that is played throughout the series. It's the music that has a samba beat to it (OD fans will surely recognize it). Somehow, it was erroneously chosen to be the English title. In fact, this series goes by a number of English titles: Bayside Shakedown; Rhythm and Police; Dancing on the Line of Enquiry; Wangan Police Station; Dancing Detective; Bayside Dragnet.

And then there's Cori's version: Odoru Daisosomething.

I thought it was Odoru DaisoSomethingOrOther.
Having flashbacks of Sakuragisomething from My Boss, My Hero when I read that, .
But yea...there was certainly a heck of a lot of titles for the show. Regardless though, it was an awesome show (and I love the theme song, every now and then when I find a DDR machine I have to play it!
