Cori & Wynter
Grumpy Gene isn't horrible. It just isn't good enough.
I just had high expectations because of the cast.
For me, there's something wrong here. The writing, the chemistry between the characters... I'm not sure.

If a show doesn't grab you with the first episode you toss it?
That's a drag man. You'll miss out on a lot of good stuff that way.
Off hand, I can only think of a handfull of shows that grabbed me with the first episode. Usually shows don't find their feet until episode 3 or 4.
Well... a new DVD version of Tomoko's Double Kitchen is being uploaded over at d-addicts, so I'm gonna spend the rest of the night watching my bittorrent counter. _________________

I agree. The only drama I can think of off hand that had me hooked from act 1, scene 1 is Long Vacation, even Shomuni and Odoru Daisassousen took a couple episodes to hit their stride.
But thanks for the heads up on Grumpy Gene. Usually I'll watch anything with Joe Odagiri, but I may have to pass on this one.

I was thinking the same thing, monta...give up on Iryu? Give it another chance!
Anyways, on topic: Watching 1 Pound Gospel 1 & 2 the other night...and loving it so far. Interesting plot, and I have to admit impressive boxing. Also started Ashita no Kita Yoshio, and while it is extremely interesting, I had to unfortunately cut the first episode short due to work (I WILL keep watching though, it's a unique setup).
Also, sitting on a few others from last season (Security Police 3-6 now, the finale of Iryu 2 for the subs), but more or less I'm on standby at this point. Things have been getting hectic around here on the work front, so my drama-viewing has been reduced...methinks it's time to do the "in the background" show watching just to get my fix!

I find that to usually be the case too. Ep 1 is for set up.
Just finished Glass Mask season 1. THe young lead actress, Adachi Yumi has a rather enchanting quality and the rest of the cast rocks too. Based on the anime/manga it has an old fashioned feel to it in some ways. Campy and often high drama, it was charming and addictive. Ive started season 2. _________________

It's not as black and white as it sounds, but it's a good rule of thumb for me.

eeehh... you gave up Iryu?? that show rocks. but different people different taste anyway
It started off so dayem cheesy...the drunk doctor trying to get back in the mix, the cracked out anestesiologist (sp)....shiet was too ridiculous. I know I lot of ppl like it tho...which is cool.
But I have to agree with Geezer...the medical dramas are so dayem cliched it's beyond belief. The most hackneyed genre of dramas out there....period.

I've been loathe to watch it after it got universally panned here...I'm watching Dr. Koto right now...a medical dorama...it's one of the better ones out there, that I'm watching cuz Shibasaki is in it...but the premise that a major medical emergency has to happen in every episode is played out.

I liked Dr. Koto even though I usually avoid medical dramas because of the aforementioned cliches. But on the other hand, I'll give anything set on a remote island an extra chance. Plus this one contains Yuriko Ishida, probably one of the most underrated actresses out there.
