I've just started watching Keiji no Genba, a 4 episode detective show from NHK.
http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Keiji_no_Genba
Heck of a good cast.
Each episode is a different case, but the premise beneath is that with mandatory retirement coming up for the baby boomers in Japan, 100,000 of the 250.000 police officers in Japan will leave the force within the next ten years.
So the focus of this show is the older detectives trying to train a whole new generation of cops who'll be taking over at a much younger age than was the norm. _________________ Manga is to Literature

I'm almost done with Asakusa Fukumaru Ryokan....Toshiyuki Nishida is a comic tour de force....this guy never fails to elicit laughter.

Re: Nishida.
While Nishida is one of my favorite all time actors... you guys should be very happy you missed Tokumei: Keiji Dongame.

It's a cop show for the audience that thought Kirakira was a great medical drama.
An example of at least one time Nishida failed on an almost epic level. _________________ Manga is to Literature

Duly noted. Cops shows generally suck in my opinion...the only one I've really enjoyed is Odoru. I haven't seen Kirakira b/c too many people have shat on it...

Yes, and it's so annoying! My brother wants me to find as many cop shows as I can for him, but it's hard work.
Anyways, I watched episodes 7 and 8 of Yasashii Jikan last night. I love how everything is gradually starting to unwind. _________________

Uh, how can you be watching that drama if it hasn't been released (April 10) yet?

You need to watch the Jiko Keisatsu series...
Though it's not really a cops show in the true sense: more like an insane asylum where the patients wear police uniforms.

I cant do the cop shows either.
But occasionally I can do the medical dramas.
Have gotten hooked on The GReat White Tower currently. About the powerplays and top surgeries in a first rate University Medical Hospital. Kurosawa Toshiaki is wonderful in his role of the ambitious, supertalented surgeon. On ep 6 of 24. Im hoping it will hold me.
I think it is wonderful how many people are enjoying Yasashii Jikan. _________________

I really enjoy dramas of this type, so if you have any other recommendations, please share them! (in the appropriate thread. ) _________________

Yeah you guys have been lavish in your praise of that drama....it definitely does seem like it breaks the mold of the genre, as you guys describe it.

Although I have to say, episode 2 was considerably less silly than the first one. |
I thought Nodame was seriously silly.
Can one say that? _________________

Good question, it's a pardox that only Nodame herself can possibly solve!
