I snuck in an episode of "Aibou 4" yesterday because I just couldn't help myself.
I'm still really enjoying Ashita no Kita Yoshio.
Yuriko Yoshitaka has been terrific as the fallen idol. I only knew her from the Konno-San shorts, which I loved. But she didn't actually speak in those.
Manami Konishi on the other hand is really starting to bug me. Her's is an important role in the story... and she's giving a heck of a performance... for a department store mannequin!
With Manami playing the role of Kita's ex, it's like a third of the story is simply... missing. _________________

really enjoyed that one too. This was one of my first Matsu Takako dramas and it made me a fan of hers, especially as a singer. The supporting cast were great, but my favorite is Imai Masayuki, although Kubozuka is a close second
Yeah those actors did a great job as well. Very funny performances that keep an interest in the side story as well as the main plot.

Hate to say it, but I have to agree 100%. I mean, EVERYBODY gives a great performance EXCEPT Manami!! I haven't seen a performance this lifeless since Shiina Kippei in Seiki Bijin! Real disappointing.

I thought Manami's performance fit her character. That was definitely my favorite show of winter season. _________________
nothing special, not disappointing, but not thrilling either. i guess something around 6 or 7/10. Yonekura Ryoko was really good. But the thing about this dorama is that the dialogs were somewhat over the top, too much, no one in real life would ever say some. thing like that. and so was a lot of the scenes. it's too organized and stuff. i can't imagine such situation to happen in real life. so in the end it kinda became cheesy. Plus, there was a background music that was really lame like some sort of 80s tokusatsu song. But dang Ryoko is one hot babe... _________________

I'm re-watching Nobuta wo Produce again, just watched episode 3. I really like this episode. Sometimes I think that, if this wasn't one of my first jdoramas, I probably wouldn't like it as much. But every time I re-watched, I discovered something new, even if it's just bits and pieces. I was in a slump, this series has rekindled my interest in jdorama by a little bit again.

That goes for me as well. The first drama I ever saw was Hotman and sometimes after I've gone thru a dry spell, I'll pop it in and watch a random episode. Kind of rekindles that feeling when dramas were new and exciting for me.

For me, there seemed to be a lot of people in the negotiation team that did nothing but stand around looking worried/tense/angry depending on the situation. I was wondering why they were there. There were also a few really lame hairstyles on some of the younger guys, but that's par for the course nowadays

Currently watching Engine. It's an obvious vehicle for Kimura Takuya; he pretty much does nothing but his usual scowl or blank face, and the script makes sure he looks good. In fact, the two leads, he and Koyuki, are the weakest parts of the series with characters that required no effort to play. Among the adults, they were easily outclassed by Sakai Masato(who ironically also stole the show from another SMAP lead in Shinsengumi ). But ultimately the story revolves around the orphans, and the bulk of the drama comes from them. Not a bad series when it's showing the kids.
I enjoyed Engine a lot, but you're right, the kids steal the show
Like most of KimuTaku's dramas I enjoyed Engine but IMO it ranks among his worst. He is at his best in romantic comedies like Love Gen and Pride (I know you guys don't consider it a romantic comedy). then there is the bottom of the barrel in the Million something or other debacle that I had to toss after the first couple of junk drama episodes.

Yup, his stereotypical "scoundrel with a heart of gold" role... And the chemistry between him and Koyuki was nonexistent.

Joudan ja nai episode 9 and Atsu-hime episode 18. I really need to spend my time watching better dramas (though Atsu is pretty decent). _________________
