I liked it. Yuka was cute. I gave it 7 of 10.
Enjoyable but not memorable.

As usual I'm trying to keep up with past dramas.

1. Friends - finally appreciated the beauty of Won Bin Bonk
2. Legendary Teacher - funny at first but it kinda dragged on towards the ending.
3. Heaven's Coins - my first ultra melodramatic dorama.. Grumble
4. Yamato Nadeshiko - surprisingly enjoyable. Took a while for me to get used to a different Shinichi-san after associating him as the intensely serious Captain Koda in Good Luck.

On queu are Wakamono no Subete, Big Wing, Hello Black Jack, Sensei Shiranaino and Half Doctor..Whew! Shake Head

Mr Green Mr Green That is one of the best ones IMO. Shallow--Yutaka was soooooo yummy in that one, plus it's good on a deeper level anyway.

I like the older ones too. Currently I'm watching what I have of Long Vacation for like the billionth time :-)

More "currently", I also just recently finished Hitonatsu no Papa e (though I missed the last 15 minutes, but someone was kind enough to tell me what happened).

I'm 4 episodes into Love Complex, and it's a trip.

I was saving this one for when I needed something fast, and funny, beautiful and quirky... and it certainly delivers.

But the maddening thing about the copy I have is that it comes with gawdawful computer aided Japanese to Chinese to English Subtitles.

Now I've seen a lot of shows with bad subs. And for the most part, I've learned to put up with them. I think of them as hints, rather than as a translation.

But in a fast paced comedy that's full of word games, and snappy patter... not to mention the fact that there's a mystery involved... the gibberish on the bottom of the screen is almost (not quite, but almost) as frustrating as not having any subs at all.

And it's made even more frustrating by the fact that as I watch more and more J-dramas, even I pick up a few bits and bobs of the language. And I listen to what the characters are saying, and read the sub, and I find myself wondering how in the hell someone could have gotten it that wrong?

And once you know they're getting the small stuff wrong... how much faith can you have in the rest of the translation?

Oh well. The ladies are insanely beautiful. The guys are moving fast and being odd. And I'm catching about 75% of what's going on. So I can live with it. I just wish someone from one of the subbing groups had gotten hold of this one before the computer translators did.

This is a show that makes it clear to me that I've been spoiled by the work of people like Elton, and Amrayu, and Jem and all the other fan subbers who make my life so easy.

did you ever encounter the chinese engrish version of "pride." now that was dope....especially the part when one of the characters was asking about wine and they translated it as grapefruit....spot on, mate.....

I like it - Heaven's coins but was just commenting that this one is full of all the twist and turns of melodrama than most that I've watch. And Yutaka is agreeably cute in that one. It was a refreshing sight to see him without his goatee. Naughty

Funny, but I was also watching Long Vacation for the billionth time. I always watch it when I need a pick me upper. Bonk

I have a rule. It's the One Episode Per Day rule.

Without that rule I'd burn through all my dramas in a heart beat, and then there'd be nothing left to watch.

Unfortunately, I'm lousy at following rules -- even ones I make up for myself -- and being a good rule follower becomes even harder when I come across a series that really grabs my attention.

"Love Complex" has turned out to be one of those series.

I'm still annoyed as hell that the subtitles stink. I know I'm missing a bucket full of the jokes. But I just can't take my eyes off this show.

It's beautiful, it's strange, it's a bit surreal, it's ridiculous...

It's as if Fuji, wanting a follow up to the success of Shomuni said, let's do another show about six beautiful women in one department in a large company. The old men who run the company are, of course, incompetent, the ladies run the show... only this time, let's get David Lynch to create and direct it.

I don't know if I'll eventually think of this as one of my favorites... but I know I can't take my eyes off it. I can't wait to get home tonight so that I can watch the last two episodes.

So much for rules.
