Having watched only 1 episode, it's a little early to judge it's "excellence",but the first episode was pretty good...

Finished Watashitachi no Kyokasho, really liked it a lot. It does run a bit long, they could have shortened it to 11 episodes and

"Henshin"

Thanks Monta. I'd never heard that word before. (I'm not a Manga or Anime fan)

If I understand properly that's sort of the Japanese version of Billy Batson saying "Shazam!" and instantly transforming into Captain Marvel.

I haven't watched Kiina yet, but I noticed her doing the pose when I was glancing at the files as I downloaded them.

Natsukawa Yui does the same bit in Top Sales.

"Top Sales"

I'm not sure why it's so easy for me to admit that I'm watching Innocent Love solely because I'm a Uchida Yuki Fan Geezer... but I don't want to admit that the same is true in regards to Top Sales.

Okay, here goes.

I am a Natsukawa Yui fan Geezer

And Top Sales is kind of... not at all brilliant.

Yui certainly is. She has some wonderful scenes in here that make the show worth watching. But the show as a whole... Really not brilliant at all.

I saw the first two episodes and while I agree that Natsukawa Yui is the only "brilliant" thing about the show. She's such a great actress. But I don't think the show is bad either. Just not "great."

Maybe because Top Sales is an fairly decent drama and Innocent Love is a piece of junk. When I decided which would be "Worst Drama of 2008" it came down to Last Friends or Innocent Love and you could flip a coin.
And when Ryo showed up in Top Sales that's an added bonus. Kind of like finding an extra quarter in the change slot of the vending machine. w00t!

This I could buy.

I'm not saying Top sales is a horrible show. It's not. In fact, it has a lot to recommend it.

It should just be... better.

On the other hand. Innocent Love is just bad.

As for Last Friends -- I never bothered with it. Having Nagasawa Masami in it made me avoid it when it first showed up. And then reading some of the reviews made me think I'd dodged a bullet.

Top Sales left me cold. The way the story unfolds is at times hard to follow. What often threw me off was the weird lighting. It's supposed to make a distinction between the different time frames, but scenes turn from this ugly bright orange to normal colors without any consistency. Also, the theme of the reluctant acceptance of women in the work force is a bit dated. I also thought the choice of Natsukawa Yui was not a very happy one. At times she looks ridiculously unconvincing as a woman in her twenties.

After reading raves about it from ralphm1999 et al, I'm taking off for Ruri no Shima tonight (as soon as I find my sun glasses). Wish me a good trip.

Well is was dated: Back in the 70's, where part of the story takes place.

Yeah, the age thing was sorta pushing it...

But "the choice of Natsukawa Yui was not a very happy one?" Head Scratch

I can't be bothered with head-scratching questions at the moment. I just landed in Okinawa and can't find my sun glasses. Without them I'm ridiculously unconvincing as a man in my twenties.

I agree, casting Yui as in her 20's was a stretch...but as her role developed over decades, it worked out perfectly!

That's no excuse... You can't throw out a comment like that without substantiation..... Sad
