I enjoyed them, although perhaps (because) the quality of the translation was not the best, I felt I didn't fully understand some of the dialogue. I really like the old photos they showed in the opening and closing credits, and the two leads are both very good at delivering interesting, colourful characters. The actress who played Shogo's ex-wife looks like she had a lot of fun.
I also watched the first episode of Shibatora. For most of it, I didn't feel like I want to continue watching but for Ohgo Suzuka. After reading your comments, I will probably continue then, hopefully the cast alone is enough to make it enjoyable. |
Unfortunately the series itself doesn't really improve from there. It's not quite "silly" enough to make the "save every soul" cases feel right; the lead's "superpower" doesn't really make any sense or have value; the main villain doesn't have the charisma or intellect to make you believe he's capable of doing what he's doing. The one glue holding it together really was Suzuka Ogho. She was capable of bouncing from deep to flighty, giddy to tortured and her interaction with the cast was what made it watchable. It's an example of a weak drama possessing a spark that makes it enjoyable.

No complaints thus far. Overall the tone of this drama kind of reminds me of Nobuta wo Produce...a good thing |
They're both written by Izumi Kizara. She also wrote Suika which is another nice little drama that I liked.

Izumi Kizara is actually the pen name for two screenwriters together, one male and one female.

Thanks for the feedback. Doesn't sound promising, but I really like to see more of Ohgo Suzuka, so maybe I will see another one or two episodes.

I LUFF Beach Boys.
On Topic: Started watching Love Shuffle last night, as per Musa's suggestion. I think it's grand so far! Good casting, and interesting idea. The thing is, I can see it going bad. I hope it doesn't. _________________

Just finished Love Shuffle. It has strange and interesting unexpected twists. I enjoyed it but it's not a two times watcher.

Seems like a winner - more episodes tonight. |
Yup, one of my favorites! I saw in the Japanese movies thread where you mentioned Supercar. Honestly, I didn't know anything about them so I went over to Book-Off and picked a copy of 3 Out Change. They're pretty good! Thanks for the tip!

Glad I could help, I believe Keps-chan is a fan too (or was it Number Girl).
I had my doubts about Be nice ... a SMAP guy and an 80ties Three man and a baby storyline. But episode 1 was fun

I was skeptical reading the description too, I think I will try it then. Thanks.
Watched a few more episodes of Hanamura Daisuke. It was really enjoyable and fun. Made me really root for the characters, and even though it showed some of the ugly sides of human nature, it managed to be light-hearted and feel-good without being too cheesy, although often with the help of some too-good-to-be-true plot twists. Most of the cases were interesting, I really like this one a lot. ^_^ Looking forward to the rest.
