STand Up is amusing too.
I know, right? I had the greatest fun watching STAND UP!!!! There's no story that can tug harder at your heartstrings than... The Plight of the Seventeen-Year-Old Virgin Male, lol. This drama is as much a risque, thigh-slapping comedy of errors as it is this really sweet coming-of-age story. And those four dorks cracked me up at every turn--although Oguri Shun's tawny mane made me want to break into "The Circle of Life" each time I saw him. YamaPi is still his old, abnormal self (lol) here, and that little geekboy Nino is a sweetheart! Nino Nino Nino!!!!
*****
CODE BLUE (assorted... episodes ): Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! You have four kids who play doctors, who play kids, who play... (you guessed it!) doctors!!! How come nobody thought of this before??? Durrrrr..... Oh man, I'd rather stick a syringe in my eye. Oh, yeahhh, suuure, CODE BLUE is a medical drama alright--because you get a frikkin' lobotomy watching the first episode alone. Then you can be as brain-dead as YamaPi & Co. Everybody. Happy.
It doesn't speak well of a drama if the ONE GOOD highlight from all eleven episodes is that shot of YamaPi in the locker room, 20 seconds into Episode Bloody One. The camera inexorably pans upward to show a ridiculously buff torso channeling... Enter the Dragon! *gonnngggg!!!!* Oh-ho-ho, YammmaPiiii.... you nearly gave me a myocardial infarction there, you naughty, naughty boy! Looks like *someone's* been trying to... overcompensate for all that non-acting *someone's* been doing lately, ehhh?
But--uh-oh, uh-oh, looks like YamaPi overdid all those bench press workouts! Someoody killed the REAL YamaPi and put this... Rambo dude in his place (with dark, curly hair to match, eeep!)!!! It's Rambo with a stethoscope! Rambo in scrubs! Rambo rides the skies in a chopper, swooping down to earth to amputate limbs and vivisect bodies! And Rambo can show no emotion--other than clenching his fists, and clenching his... torso muscles! Rambo-YamaPi shows everyone how to do a Particularly Risky Surgical Procedure--on his first day on the job!!! Wow. He looks convincing enough as a doctor here--SO CONVINCING I wouldn't let him stitch up a 1-cm gash on my little toe if I ever had one.
Apparently, each episode in this drama can be entitled, "Who Will Get to Ride the Doctor Heli Today?" So the senior doctors go around saying stuff like, "You put the poor schmuck's kidneys back all wrong!" *collective gasp of horror* "Bad doctor! Bad doctor! No more rides on the chopper today!!!" And so it goes for ten. More. Episodesssss......
Yurghghrrrghh... Someone hit me with the defribrillibrilator...

Welcome to Nodame's World.
Just remember that there's also a two-part SP after these 11 episodes... And TWO theatrical movies coming in December and Spring 2010.
The drama had this It's A Wonderful Life feeling to it, which I liked, but it lost some steam in the middle portion and I thought the ending, like Shiroi Haru, was sort of abrupt.
I think Namase Katsuhisa stole the show in the drama.
Ashita no Kita Yoshio gets an 8/10.

After two episodes of each I'm finding "BOSS" a bit... thin. Shiny, but what's the word... amateurish. Maybe just the fact that Kichise Michiko is in it will save it for me. But right now her's seems more like a cameo appearance on a weekly basis.
"Double Score" is a Sorimachi vehicle from 2002 - so you know there'll be a lot of shouting, and some high energy. _________________
I just realized I forgot to write my review for Aoi Tori.
Review: 9/10

At the end of the drama, quite suddenly, you realize that the love story wasn't between Yoshimori and Kahori at all...
For the first six or so episodes I wasn't sure if I liked the drama. The scenery was marvelous, rivaled only by the amazing group of talent presented to us through intriguing characters. But I just couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe that Kahori was faultless. I kept seeing her as a seductress (ruby red lips in a ruby red car) and this clashed with my morals. And then there was the opening song (one of the best video interpretations I have ever seen) where I couldn't help but feel that Kahori was being represented by the chains binding Yoshimori.

But then, half way through the drama, Kahori dies... and everything turns upside down. The story comes together so flawlessly that you realize that Kahori really was a victim. She was "born to love and born to be loved". And her legacy would live on in the daughter she loved and the man who loved her.
Shibata Yoshimori has to be one of my favourite characters of all time. I don't know how Toyokawa Etsushi did it, but I'm in love. Tall and gentle, but strong... and silent. He moved and walked in a quiet space and it was so peaceful to watch him. He had such powerful chemistry with Suzuki Anne, who was serious a child prodigy; the way she drew you in and made you forget you were watching an actress and not a real person...
This was a beautiful drama and I'm so glad I watched until the end. I felt manipulated and tormented while watching the show, but I wouldn't have it any other way. _________________

Geezer
Re: BOSS I thought the first eight episodes are some of the lamest I've ever seen. I dunno what happens, if they changed directors or writers, but the last three aren't half bad.
Sensei
Re: Aoi Tori Yes! Toyokawa, Natsukawa, Sano, and Nagasaku were all very good, but the REAL star of this drama was Anne Suzuki.
OT: Based on the glowing recommendation of shin2 watched the first two episodes of Shiroi Koytohttp://www.jdorama.com/drama.782.htm
This is real good. But can they keep this up for 21 episodes? That's almost half a taiga! And I'll bet Hitomi Kuroki had a blast being the "bad girl"
