i gotta say though.. after watching GTO.. my boss my hero and now gokusen.. all the school dramas are seriously the same -.-
definitely a predictable and cheesy school drama but i thoroughly enjoyed it. i did skip some parts though as it was gettin kinda repetitive during some parts
oh and yamakumi is actually darn attractive when she's in yakuza mode -.-

If you're smart, you'll skip Gokusen 2 and 3... Total story retread with different Johnny's...

Har har har, too late, too late, I guess I'm NOT the least bit smart, because GOKUSEN 2 is what I just watched... and actually finished! (Haven't seen 1 or 3, nor do I ever plan to, not after 2. )
I suppose I tried it out because of all the hype surrounding the series/franchise/commercial juggernaut. And it would've been *marginally* enjoyable... if I were FIVE years old, that is. Sitting through this series I kept feeling like frikkin' Bill Murray in GROUNDHOG DAY, y'know? You're forced to relive the same episode over and over and over again: The boys in 3-D are mean to Yankumi! Yankumi gets tough on them! The boys get into various scrapes/fisticuffs with the bad elements of society! Yankumi saves her "precious students!" The boys learn Valuable Life Lessons! Like... Obey your elders! Choose your battles wisely! Learn to appreciate your teachers! Follow your heart! (Hahaha)
They could've done this with one SP (instead of 3 seasons, 2 SPs and a movie) and achieved the same result. People actually love this? How could this drama have rated close to 28%?
The ONLY thing I liked about the whole thing was Kame, bless his little pretty-boy heart. And was it just me, or did he actually have some chemistry with Nakama Yuki? Heh heh heh...
Hmmm... and since my recent YamaPi spree hit a few snags after KUROSAGI and CODE BLUE, let's see what else this Kamenashi Kazuya can do, yesss...?
The first set was the one to watch and not because of those overly-coiffed miscreant students: it was all Nakama Yukie and the premise was rather fresh.
By the time 2 and 3 showed, the premise was as stale as a two-week old loaf of sourdough... And smelled just as bad.

Totally agree. although i watched it because of "those overly-coiffed miscreant students" , i fairly enjoyed the show and as you said, the idea was fresh and appealing. i would have watched a second series if it was about the same students (honestly, i think they were best ones out of whole 3 series ) but in non-school enviroment/real world that had something to do with Nakama Yuki too.
ok, this happens when you let your imagination runs wild. _________________

Wee-eell, it'll only seem stale if one has seen G1 first, like you said. And I haven't... For me, it was all so fresh and new! Lolzzz
@ "overly-coiffed miscreant students" Hahahahaha!!!! Classic, man. *wipes away tear* Let me guess--you started calling MatsuJun "MatsuJerk" around this time, ne?
Why did I watch G2 instead of G1, you ask? Hmmm... I never really gave it much thought... In fact, I'm not quite so sure myself.........
Oh, all right, whatever, I might as well come out and say it: Kame made me do it! It was Kame!!! I never would've gone near any of the GOKUSENS if it weren't for Kame! Okay? Okay? Happy now? *sticks head in sand* (Disclaimer: It's not even because of KAT-TUN. I'd rather eat maggots and broken glass before I become a fan of that posse of poseurs. I like Kame as an A-C-T-O-R. It's all because of that Nobuta Powah (entah!) y'know... /end disclaimer)
But, whaddahell, since everyone says G1 was the best, I might as well go see it... someday. (After I've watched the movie hahahahahha )

Now that's a cool idea for a spin-off! But not really for a sequel, because then it couldn't be called "Gokusen" since Yankumi wouldn't be their sensei no mo', right? But there'd be more leeway if it were a spinoff, and it wouldn't make the story seem stale and all. Kinda like Joss Whedon's BUFFY and ANGEL series, y'know?

Hehehe... Judging by your emoticon, I take it you're not enjoying yourself? Oh well... Was it YamaPi's arm-flapping and weird giggling that turned you off? Oh, do stick with it till the end! You won't be disappointed... I hope...

Gokusen 1 I loved it was by far my fave of all the series' but I may be biased... I was a Yankumi/ Shin shipper... my boyfriend thinks I'm weird for it ^^;;;; XD best not let him watch any of the many Kdramas around this theme ^^;
I actually generally don't like watching Kame, something about his face annoys me... LOL... I don't like to say I won't watch a show because a certain actor in it but I have been a little prejudice of him... usually I avoid Tackey dramas too but overcome that one watching Orthros no Inu recently and enjoying it I know... a lot of people here don't agree but I'm happy XD
I need something to watch now, I'm actually not watching any Jdrama at the mo... well I am watching Orthros no Inu, Koishite Akume and Buzzer Beat as they come out but I am up to date now until the next eps are released.
Currently working on ep 8 of a Kdrama called 'Don't ask me about the past' she has a good nose XDDD _________________

I don't remember which one I watched. I do recall I was barely able to see 3 episodes and then simply had to discard this meaningless limp imitation of school life. What I remember most was poor Nakama throwing punches that a rabbit would laugh at and the big toughies falling over from these clownish fight sequences. yikes wha a sad spectacle.
I just finished watching four episodes of Ruri no Shima in a row! I would keep going except that it's 2:30 am
I am loving it! And I don't know if it is because it is late but I cried in nearly every episode.
I had a feeling you would get that kind of reaction. I watched the first epi again to refresh my memory of what you were seeing.

I bet when they are on the waterfront and he breaks down crying for her that you shed your first tear at that scene. That's about when you realize you can't stop watching.
