Let's not discuss him. This has been such a great day so far. Why ruin it now?

Like the reverse King Midas - everything he touches turns to crap.

Medusa? Snakes for hair? That would be YamaPi and not Tackey, beemer. Goodness, and I thought you had your Greek mythology down pat. Shake Head Naughty

Now, Tackey gazing upon YamaPi-Medusa and promptly turning to stone, now THAT makes perfect sense, ne? Twisted

Even stone is better than the bleep he churns out. We might all take issue with many of those boy band/Johnny's actors but that kid is the worst. But as Wynter suggested, enough about him.

Deal!?

Hi guys!

The glut of Yampi, Tackey, Johnny boy series has had me wandering through some Korean series lately, but with the summer shows becoming a distant memory I figured it was safe to come back to Japan.

To make getting back into the flow easy on me Eve sent me a very nice copy of:

Oatsui No Ga Osuki? (Thank you Eve.)

http://www.jdorama.com/drama.289.htm

I'm pretty sure I mentioned the show a while ago, but the original copy I had was some "through a glass darkly" video, and it was missing a few episodes in the middle.

Even so, I loved the show back then, and I liked it even more this time.

It's a family comedy... but this thing mixes farce, with snappy patter, with a touch of slap stick... and does it all seamlessly. And at times it even slows itself down to offer some warm family moments, before sprinting off into another bit of craziness.

I loved this show! I mean, come on... they even did an episode based on farts, without ever descending to "High School" or "toilet" humor.

This is not your run of the mill soft and sentimental family show.

Wanna see what grown-up actors can do with good material? Treat yourself.

Now I'm moving on to JIN. Normally I won't touch a Japanese show that has a Doctor as one of its lead characters. But this one stars Miki Nakatani... and Miki trumps all of my other rules.

Finished of My Girl, the initial charm of the girl (show) quickly wears off. The main actor had the same facial expression regardless of the situation. I admit that watching this show right after I finished Shiroi Haru wasn't a good idea as both shows shared the single father theme.

Oh, you won't regret this one because Miki was gorgeous in it!! And even though it can be a bit dramatic at times, this was a really nice series.

Yup.

The premise/story was interesting, but it started to wear out it's welcome about 2/3 of the way. Sweat

To be honest... I'm sort of a lost cause there. I thought Miki was gorgeous in "Happily Ever After" even with the bad hair, the drab (to goofy) outfits, and the moles and warts they pasted all over her face.

But your right. She's gorgeous in "JIN". And it's off to a good start because I'm 3 episodes in and hungry for more.

Boy... not to me. I really liked "Ashita..." all the way through.

Then again... I STILL haven't gotten around to finishing "Nodame...". Maybe I should eat more bran.

I didn't see much growth/development in the characters and I thought the ending was abrupt... Sweat

Yup, I'm with Geezer on this one. My two favorite dramas of 2008 were "Ashita kita, , ," and "Pandora". Applaud

And it looks like you've gotten thru the "cholera" part of Jin so it should be smooth sailing from here on out.

Maybe it's just me... but it wasn't that long since I watched Ruri no Shima, and Kohinata Fumiyo's character in that is very similar to Kita Yoshio. Either that or he isn't really acting much Bleah

Hey, I'm not "dori" anymore?? Bleah

And let me paraphrase what I originally said: Mike was more gorgeous than usual in this drama. I thought she was really breathtaking as Nokaze and I loved her attitude. As Miki (the doctor), she was pretty, but Nokaze just stood out, especially with her beautiful outfits. I think you'll be in heaven with this drama. Big Grin

Well for me, Aiba Masaki is just the worst actor in his group and it clearly shows. Though I won't be surprised if he wins Best Actor in the upcoming popularity-based Nikkan Awards due to the voting power of Arashi fans. It will be one of the misplaced award of the season (like how Yamapi keeps winning even though he's clearly a bad one) but hey, that's Japan for you. hehe
