I've been watching Dragon Zakura and I have to say, this was a tough one to get into.

For me, the first 4 episodes were sort of duds. Hiroshi Abe is a favorite of mine, so I kept watching, but I couldn't have cared less about the cast around him. And yet another story about High School unerachievers was... tedious.

But somewhere toward the end of 4 and into episode 5 the show started to wake up. In a large part because Kyoko Hasegawa seemed to wake up.

And that's interesting for me, because she's the last person I would have thought could liven up a series.

The only other show I'd seen her in was Matsu's "Always the Two of Us", and I thought Hasegawa was one of the biggest zeros I'd ever seen in a series. Amazing what a little time, and some added experience can do for an actor.

I really doubt this show will make it to my favorites list. But at least now, after 8 episodes, I'm no longer just plodding through it, because I have it. I'm actually starting to enjoy it, and I'm thinking about taking a look at some of Hasegawa's other work.

Quick note: Yesterday I was watching a movie called "3 Extremes". Three short horror stories in one movie. One directed by a guy from HK, one from a Korean, and one from a Japanese director (Okay, it was Miiki) and I was through the whole thing before I realised that the Japanese leading lady was Hasegawa.

Different hair-do, different attitude, different setting, and she was a completely different person. Not bad.

it's one of those created-in-japan dishes....it's something akin to a taco-flavored risotto with ground meat, i believe..i've never had it personally Smile

a version...not so much like a risotto but basically a taco without the shell and rice instead....i wonder how the slow dance version tasted?
