I prefer to miss a few jokes than waste time watching a boring drama. Also kind of nice to learn a few old stories (rakugo) and general Japanese culture thingies. _________________

What's that show about?
basically, hasekyo seeks revenge for the death of her fiance. there's more to it than that of course but you do see kyoko playing someone different for a change. also, okamoto aya is in it so that's an added bonus! _________________

yeah if a dorama is boring a few jokes won't save it, but if a dorama is good a few "missed" jokes won't spoil the effort.

Any time, Eve.
I've been watching Mokuyoubi no shokutaku (Dinner on Thursday) ... so much for my theory that I love shows simply because the video is old and grainy.
It's a family sitcom from '92. You know... double family home, son and daughter-in-law move in upstairs, mom and dad have fights, and then make up. Husband and wife have fights, and then make up. Sisters being inconvenienced by the arrangement having fights and then making up.
It's not lousy. And Shino Hiroko (the mom) is doing what she can with what she's been given. It's just that after 5 episodes, I'm still not engaged. I haven't learned everyone's name yet. (Heck, as I write this, I can't think of any of the character's names. That should tell you something.)
The Mother-in-Law, Daughter-in-Law dynamic has been a favorite subject for J-Drama over the years. These days I guess I tend to compare most of them to "Double Kitchen", and the rest come up wanting.
There is, after all, only one Yamaguchi Tomoko. _________________

Your critique of this series is very accurate. In my post re: this dorama, I think I characterized it as "bland." Wouldn't it be awesome if some TV producer would have the guts to buck the current trend of littering dorama with these flavors-of-the-month boytoys and overly saccharin cutiepies and get real actors--veteran, consummate performers--and find a script worthy of their talents.
