Finished Kekkon Dekinai Otoko and Narita rikon during the weekend. Watching Konya Hitori no Beddo De.

I picked them at random. For some weird reason: 1st Marriage, 2nd divorce and 3rd cheating. The 1st two are with Abe Hiroshi and the last 2 with Seto Asaka. ... Head Scratch

It's like most of their entertainers, particularly the male ones, are spinoffs or dropouts from COSPLAY conventions. bleh

"Medaka"

I haven't seen all of it yet (as BMW mentioned, he's hard subbing it for me) but I did want to address a comment.

thtl You said:

Quote:
Just finished "Medaka". It was a lot more fun than I imagined. Granted, it was no different from the likes of "GTO" and "Gokusen", replacing and ex-ganster (GTO), a current ganster (Gokusen), with a clueless ex-OL. In the same format as the others "Medaka" spelled out a student's problem in each of the episodes.

I agree with most of what you're saying. It's a format. A formula. The High School Teacher and his/her problem / under achieving / students.

But I think there are a couple of big differances. First, the teacher doesn't go around solving everyone's problems by getting into fist fights.

Second, the teacher isn't a born idealist who'd always dreamed of entering the noble teaching profession. She got into it the way most teachers get into teaching. She got fired from her real job.

And third, and most important, since it's set in a Night School, and the students are adults... the supporting cast isn't populated with a flock of androgynous little flavor of the month pop stars who couldn't get the lead in their High School play, and a pack of wanna-be bikini models. These students, along with the other teachers, are actual, real live, professional actors.

At least for me, that makes for a huge difference.

But I agree with you completely about Mimura. She does a terrific job in this show, and to be honest, that was the biggest surprise for me. I'd seen her before, in Beginners, and Fire Boys, and I thought she was dull as last night's dish water.

I've seen the first 4 episodes, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest.

Yeah, I noticed that during the hardsubbing/encoding... A more realistic spin rather than that j-pop-star-wants-to-be-an-actor cliche.

Fist-fights were borne from the gangster background, which remained me I forgot to mention "Gachibaka", a lesser product of the same genre. The ex-OL angle makes for a more refreshing way of handling problems.

Forum members in the business of educating others may a problem with this statement. Mr Green

Better put on you fire-retarding suite - flames from the BDFG (Brain Dead Fan Girls) troupe will be coming any second now. hehe

At least for me, that makes for a huge difference.

Mimula's performance in "Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu" was a bit washed out. Now, thanks to you, I know it was washed out with 'last night's dishwater'. Bleah
