for what it's worth... I'd recommend "Long Vacation".
As I've mentioned before... whenever friends ask me why I'm so hooked on J-Drama, I show them the first episode of "Long Vacation" and say "that's why".
Just about everyone has asked for copies of the rest of the series. _________________

It's really about how Joze (Ikewaki Chizuru) getting in touch with reality. She was pampered and, at the same time, discriminated her grandmother. Tsuneo (Tsumabuki Satoshi) walked into her life and gave her a glimpse of the outside world. When Joze's grandmother died she was freed of the chain, so to speak, and explored the world (figuratively speaking).
Tsuneo, on the other hand, is just a very commonplace young college (soon to become) graduate who met an interesting person. The sex scene, IMHO, was a kind of symbolic thing of a physical relationship between a normal and abnormal person - 'damaged goods' was how Joze was referred to by her grandmother.
Kanae (Ms. Ueno) was Tsuneo's reality, just as Tsuneo was Joze's fantasy (of the real world - weird, I know). Kanae knew the stuff that Tsuneo was made of and was frustrated at him being infatuated, or fascinated, by the disabled Joze. She was right of course because in the end Tsuneo returned to her.
Joze did get something out of this experience - she stepped out of her little world and seemed to manage alright by herself.
Don't expect any strong philosophical message from this movie, or your head won't stop spinning.

urrrghhh.....
(dumb translations by me)
I wonder if this movie got bad publicity from any Cerebral Palsy Patients group or just general disabled persons concern groups. Joze was basically prostituting herself for small favours (letting the neighbourhood pervert touches her breasts so he would take the trash out for her) or for company (she basically seduced Tsuneo, laying out the foton and her torso).

well well, don't you think anyone who doesn't like japanese movies would definitely stop watching after the frieky, "Uhhh.. uhh.. chotto, chotto mate! Aaahhhhh..... i said wait..."
people would immedietely think that the movie was sick and they wouldn't even care trying to understand what the story was about. I nearly did that even though i like japanese movies, kept on saying "What the.....!?". simply sluttish. and the taking the trash out thing was just...
but it was fun

Guys,
And if you do a little page turning you'll discover that this movie has been discussed. You might find an insight or two in there.
sorry if it's a bit off topic and in the wrong thread. but it's just a light talk, not deep into conversations
on topic: still on Black Leather Notebook
halfway through Be With You, crap, Hiraoka Yuuta appeared only for like 3 minutes or something. sweet movie _________________

Well because most of you were recommending Long Vacation, I've started this drama.
I'm not sure what to make of it so far. It looks promising, but I've no idea what's going to happen (apart from the obvious).
Monta - I'm gonna check out News no onna's write-up on the site after posting this.
bmwracer - I'm devastated my Kuitan still hasn't plopped through my letterbox. *gnashes teeth*
thtl - I'm pleased to say I have no idea who Kyon is. Hah!
No, it's the continuation. A made for TV movie if I'm not mistaken. A separate story.
Finished Medaka, now with Kiken na aneki. Misaki Itoh as an air head... again.
what did you think of Medaka? isn't it just great?
"Yuuutaaaroooooo...."
Just finished Kurokawa no Techou. Hmm... this dorama is very 'heavy'. makes your head spin. The right dorama to watch after light ones like Kiken na Aneki or Kuitan. At first i thought it was simply bitchy, but in the end....

It's actually about a woman's dignity, but still bitchy . But the ending didn't really bite me. Why did she have to get caught by the cops?
very convincing acting by Ryoko Yonekura , maybe Love Revolution will be next.
My friend just gave me Iryu. I took a quick glimpse of it. Turns out it has the same (actually, exactly the same) as the manga version. It dissapointed me a bit since unlike Nodame Cantabile where the power of the show is at the performance of the actors/actresses, comedy, and music, but Iryu's power is only at the plot itself. If you've seen the manga version, there's no thrill anymore... And why did they have to put that Teppei dude? Wasn't the director confident enough with the plot? but he/she diceded to put in a fruity-boy but turns out the fruity boy ruins the whole show with such horrid acting...
I've also finished Be With You. this movie is very very sweet. At first i thought it was absurd. But when you get to the last 30 minutes, thats when the show begins. everything revealed. very sweet indeed. and the good thing is, this sweet does not let you drop any tears at all. a good one for christmas i guess _________________

Just finished Overtime....this dorama was incredibly nostalgic for me and possessed many great things that attracted me to the genre in the first place, those many years ago. I heartily recommend this dorama for all especially those who enjoyed such shows such as Long Vacation, Beautiful Life, Orange Days (all written by the same screenwriter as Overtime, Eriko Kitagawa) and Love Generation. I felt a genuine pang of sadness when this show ended.
