You mean, apart from the fact that she looks exactly like Kyoko Hasegawa?

I didn't get through many episodes of this one - partly because of my less-than-great grasp of the language, and partly because Takizawa is about as dynamic an actor as a plank of wood.

I like the drama and it's enjoyable. I always dream about the same thing will happen to me. Mr Green

I wouldn't mind a cute & beautiful woman like HaseKyo to change my whole life. When I back home, I'll be happy to find HaseKyo has been sleeping on my bed while I'm gone, eating my food and rearranging the furniture. hehe

My Review: 5/10

Thank god I made it through this drama! I went through a brief moment of weakness where I considered not finishing it, thus making it the first drama I wouldnft complete.

The narration, especially in the beginning of the drama, really annoyed me and turned me off right away. I mean, Kyon would start with gThis is my girlfriendch and we would see the girl, see her dump him, and then he would say gThis was my girlfriend, another hurdle I had to passh or whatever.

This drama is beyond my comprehension. How does Surumi crawl through Kyonfs window when hefs on the third floor? Why does Honda-sanfs girlfriend suddenly suspect him without warning? What is the purpose of episode 5-9 when everything could have been wrapped up within four epis or less?

Even the comic relief (the two men living in the same apartment as Kyon) was pathetic. Takki is a terrible actor, and he makes it worse by playing stupid, pathetic characters that are always dragged around by the overbearing women in the drama. Hasegawa Kyoko CAN act, but her character was so flakey I couldnft even appreciate the skill that went into producing such a character.

Mind you, I found the women in the drama good and solid. Hasegawa Kyoko, Konishi Manami, and Maya Miki are grand actresses and even Shimatani Hitomi pulled through. But neither could save this drama in my eyes. It was too whimsy and BORING. So boring, that it was almost painful to watch at times. Initially I planned to give this drama a 4/10, but I think Ifll give it a 5/10 because the ending provided decent closure and wasnft as bad as the rest of the drama.

Other than Hasegawafs wardrobe, which was awesome, this drama is completely forgettable.

i liked this drama although hasekyo's character is weak i thought. for me the star was maya miki and i particularly liked the scene in which she was excited by the men taking off their ties.

ah well, i hope you have a better experience with other dramas. Mr Green

Yesh, I enjoyed Miki, and I enjoyed Manami. And of course Ryoko. But still. Bad boring show.

Yesh, the type of finish that leaves a horrid pain in my side.

I'm a little surprised since most of the time we like the same type of drama.... Shocked
Maybe I'm more attuned to the Japanese philosphy since I've been watching doramas for about 15 years. For me Hasegawa coming thru the 3rd floor window was not a problem. I look at Japanese doramas and especially asadoras as kind of fairy tale pleasantries. As I have said over and over if you cannot tolerate anything below Shakespearean quality then this is the wrong genre. Admitedly there are some doramas that border on Shakesperian philosophy which for me are pure boredom.
That is not what I look for or want in this genre. I got enough of that during my beatnick days when you were not with it if you watched anyhting less sophisticated. Doh!
How did you manage to accept girls thrown thru the air like rag dolls in Nodame Cantabile which is equally stupid as entering a 3rd floor window and far harder for me to appreciate since I cannot tolerate mangas. Shake Head

In this drama there was not the kind of love charisma that Kimutaku engenders in his romantic dramas. And believe me those are the real true superior doramas... yet I liked this drama because after the initial episodes droning on for a while, I suddenly felt that I was a part of the group either in the rooming house or the bar. It is a relaxing drama in so far that it did not build much suspense. Naturally I found Hasegawa totally enchanting which may be the reason I liked it so much; which would not have the same response for you. Puppy Dog Eyes

The scenes in the bar between Leo Morimoto and the woman that ran the bar were the ONLY thing that made this drama tolberable for me. When those two were together, I'd be thinking, "Yeah, let's follow these two for a couple episodes" Which wasn't going to happen.

Simple. Their two completely different genres. Nodame was a comedy, where slapstick works great. Boky was NOT, and so I found nothing mystical or enchanting about her coming in through a third floor window... especially when you get to know her character and realize she's just a normal person with no super powers.

That might be it. I didn't enjoy this drama at all tho if you read in my critique I DID mention that I thought the females were all solid. Ralph, I dunno why you brought up "shakespearean stuff" when it seems so unconnected to anything I said in my critique. I thought you knew my tastes better than that, and having one difference in taste isn't the end of the world. Smile

I suddenly realized that I completely misjudged this show. It dawned on me just now what it really is about: a young female magician who uses her sexual attraction to fool an aging beatnik into believing that the only alternative to mindless entertainment is Shakespearean grandiloquence.
