Hohoho! The power blackout occured here last night as well!
After the NY/Canada incident the representatives of the electricity company assured there would never be such an incident as in the US...they use different system from the US, not dependin on the major power source...oops...the power went out in the middle of watchin Phone Booth movie at 20.15 local time last night. The blackout affected the Capital region and its surroundings.
We all went for a stroll, hehe. Power went back on at 21.00. Hehe! I bet ppl lmao'ed at the electricity company hehe braggin off

yah.. singapore's news was also reporting that big blackout.. so you experienced it..??

well.. a blackout did happen to my house once when i was about 10.. but then when we went out to check.. only my house had no electricity.. as we live in a block of flats it was kind of wierd.. only when my mom checked the box at the stairway landing then she realised the reason.. a bird had built its nest inside the box.. accidently turning the main switch off... hehe it was soo interesting.. i had to sit outside the corridor to do my homework wait for my electricity man to fix it again.. neighbours were rather surprised to see me and my bro in our pjs doing homework in the corridor... Sweat

Oh my god! The 'bird nest' incident!! It happened in my secondary school once. Everybody was so excited abt it!! hahaha! It was hilarious!

Gotta chalk up to New York spirit of toughness. But the difference for me is that until 10 years ago I was living in a hellhole somewhere in South America. From 1988 to 1991 it was nothing but one blackout after another. SOmetimes it was terrorism (as in, blowing up line towers) and others it was the damn utility rationing the juice (as in, 12 hours juice and 12 not). So I was quite prepared for this one...

Well I think mine lasted for half a day or so. It was weird and we knew something was wrong when we drove down a street and 5 or 6 street lights were out (and may I add there was 4 or 5 crashes on the way as well, thank god I'm ok Bleah)

I don't think it was too detrimental to me, I was occupied for around 3 or 4 hours, then dinner, gba and just slept early.

Anyone here been in a blackout before? Its been a big news in the USA for two days straight now. Three or four states in the east coast of the US experience blackout including the state of New York. I thought blackout was fun when i was young.

Here in my part of California it happens somwhere between 4-8 times a year. It's expected almost every year during a storm or something and it sucks because although we do have the ones that last for 10 hours or so, our blackouts have the tendency to come in and out super quicly and ruining television sets, computers and any technology.

That's why they sell so many APC battery backups here in the area I guess. My important computer related hardware is hooked up to one and everything else on surge protectors. My parents bought a new big screen TV and there was a blackout two weeks ago and kept coming on and off super quick and then their TV stopped working after the power came back on hours later.

But I suppose if I lived in New York...where I was stuck in an office in a high rise or in an elevator or during the hot summer, I'd go nuts.

It's just so eerie when you go out and everything is pitched black and quiet.... My only way of going through my house is through the light on my cel phone or PDA.

try living in the philippines, theyre always black out there.. even if i havent been there for 12 years. i still remember how it feels going through all that almost every day.. so if it happens here in the US, i can still move instead of panicking

Hiya, this took place in the Central Cali. area. I've never had this problem in the Bay Area or Los Angeles but it happens quite a bit.

Hmm, seems really odd that Central Californnia would be more subsceptible to blackouts than any other part of California...

Would brownouts be more of a pain in the neck than blackouts? I would suspect that the brownouts would happen more frequently.

Nope, they're not the same: A brownout is when the voltage level drops way below the norm, whereas a blackout is a total loss of power... Smile
