For a movie, I'd say Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuioku-hen. If it's a movie, they'd actually have the budget to pull it off, and the storyline and characters are great. Grave of the Fireflies would make for a depressing but possibly oscar-worthy film.

For a TV drama, let's see...Japanese style maybe Hikaru no Go...the only problem with that is there isn't any romance, so automatically it's going to get bad ratings. Kare Kano would make a good Japanese drama. Spiral could make the transition pretty easily, but it has no real romance, either.

For HBO miniseries, I'd go with Macross Plus, cause the others don't have the budget for it.

Lots of anime I just can't imagine making into live-action and taking it seriously.

For me, I would JUST LOVE to see Ai Yori Aoshi turned into a live drama. Here's a synopsis:

One day, Kaoru Hanabishi of the second grade in the university saw a girl who put on the kimono, who lost its way. Because she had been searching for a certain person, he decided to search for the person together. However, a target address was already empty ground. She is disappointed, and presented him the photograph of the person for whom she was searching. But, that was his and her photograph taken in their childhood. Her name is Aoi Sakuraba. And she is a female heir in the Sakura department store. She has been brought up for 18 years as his fiancee. However, because Kaoru had left from Hanabishi Family, the engagement had been annulled. She came to entreat him to return to the Hanabishi Family so that the engagement with him was recovered. However, he had the reason which was not able to return to the Hanabishi Family.

If you haven't already seen the anime series, and you love the romance-type, this is a must-watch. They should have Maeda Aki play Sakuraba Aoi, and Britney Spears play Tina Foster! >jk<

Kaoru is actually a pretty good guy. If you're talking about losers, Urashima Keitaro from Love Hina is the top of that class.

The problem is that Kaoru hangs out with two morons in the photography club, which may make him out to be a loser. Otherwise, Aoi is the only girl in his life, though they have to keep the engagement a total secret, even from their friends, which in itself causes a lot of problems. There are only two other adult women in the series: Tina and Taeko. And each of their crushes last only one episode. Mayu is a total brat, so her crush on Kaoru doesn't count.

The reason why this series would work great as a Japanese drama is that it has all the elements: conflict (the engagement between Aoi and Kaoru), an anagonist (Miyabi and the Hanabishi clan), love, and humor (Tina and Taeko are quite funny). There's great balance between these elements.

And Angel Sanctuary too... that sounds pretty good. X-Clamp 1999 would be good too, if it's not too gory
Hellsing... well, they can get Gackt to play the lead vampire Alucard
Fruits Basket would also be nice, but I wonder how they're gonna make the actors change into animals...

Well "Neon Genesis Evangelion" is in the making. ADV Films is producing the live action movie. And Love Hina could be pretty funny to see. I've got my dream of see Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 live action (movie, serie or whatever) but with an excellent budget so they could do great special effects. And I think that Karekano could be a good choice too.
BTW , someone knows something about Azumanga's drama??

There is a drama with Azumanga and there is an anime based on I's manga, are ovas but they kill the story

Yeah! It's a really great manga... and it would be a great dorama if made into one! And loveless... I like that song too! It's called Tenshi no Yubikiri sung by Fukada Mai (dunno who she is...) and written by Fuji Fumiya! If they had the same song in the dorama they should make an opening like in the anime too!

Oh well, maybe they should juz start the ball rolling by making a dorama version of Hana Yori Dango. It's in the talks rite? Well, after the Taiwanese version I would certainly welcome the Japanese remake

i hate the ova of I's they'ved compressed the whole story in 1 dvd
