Haha. Amazing that they're already talking about 4Ghz when we are barely seeing processors with 1 to 1.5Ghz. I suppose it's inevitable but the timing of the article is a bit surprising, I guess.

Google to acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion
By: Zach Epstein | Aug 15th, 2011 at 07:39AM
84 Comments

Google and Motorola Mobility have announced an agreement whereby Google will acquire Motorola for $12.5 billion. The acquisition price equates to $40 per share of Motorola stock, or a premium of 63% over Fridayfs closing price. The move is considered in part to be an effort that will better-align Google to compete with Applefs iPhone, which owned two-thirds of profits among the worldfs top-8 smartphone vendors in the second quarter. A Google-owned hardware arm give the company complete control over device hardware, software and services, resulting in an end-to-end user experience that is completely under Googlefs command. Perhaps just as important in this day and age, the deal will also give Google control of Motorolafs extensive patent portfolio. gMotorola Mobilityfs total commitment to Android has created a natural fit for our two companies,h Google CEO Larry Page said in a statement. gTogether, we will create amazing user experiences that supercharge the entire Android ecosystem for the benefit of consumers, partners and developers. I look forward to welcoming Motorolans to our family of Googlers.h It is unclear how this might affect Googlefs relationship with other Android partners. The deal is subject to regulatory approval, of course, and it is expected to close in late 2011 or early 2012

One of the main reasons HP bought Palm was for its WebOS intellectual property. And now they are chucking it. Idiots.

Obviously that deal worked out well for them. Rolling eyes

A big company trying to diversify and failing epically.

And ones who get screwed are the workers, who'll probably get laid off. Sad

The strange thing is, hadn't they just recently released their TouchPad?
Even today I saw commercials for it, guess having Manny Pacquiao in your ads isn't a good thing. Beaten

The TouchPad is a piece of shiet on arrival. Its sell through rate is 10%...which means Steve Jobs could take a piss on a fire hydrant and sell more fire hydrants as a consequence. HP's recent effort to market its tablets and WebOS products has been an abysmal failure.

Now, with the price drop, it was selling well. Wonder if it comes with lots of crapware like HP's printers. Shake Head

Perhaps...but the price drop is EXTREME...their 16 gb version is going for $99...that's less than most cell phones.
