i have no clue...in any event your regional qualifiying matches are probably WAY harder than the ones the US played in....

Juventus, Lazio, and Fiorentina have been relegated from Serie A as a result of the match-fixing scandal.

The scandal was uncovered as a result of a criminal investigation that was launched before the start of the 2004/05 campaign by the Naples prosecutors' office.

Telephone conversations between Moggi and a referees supremo in charge of the appointments of officials during the 2004/05 season were tapped.

Prosecutors based their probe on hundreds of bugged telephone calls between referee selectors, game officials and Moggi.

At the close of trading on Milan's stock exchange on Friday, Lazio shares had dropped 9.68% to 0.28 euros while Juventus went down to 1.45 euros - a fall of 1.15%.

An estimated 500 Lazio fans protested outside Rome's Parco dei Principi hotel as Federal Appeal Commission president Cesare Ruperto read out the verdicts inside.

More than 300 Fiorentina fans met up outside the Artemio Franchi stadium as a sign of protest but it was a different story in Turin with few Juventus supporters turning up at the club's headquarters in Via Galileo Ferraris.

AC Milan's punishement I don't understand, if they were involved at all, they should be relegated as well.

The question is : how much more the Italian will shame the football? Will they stop with their foul actions? And this isn't even related to the World Cup.

your disdain...i share in it....i know, it's quite amazing in a very foul way...as i mentioned several pages ago...it's a stain on the entire league and it really tarnishes the credibility of the sport which is obviously huge in Italy...affects the image of those not even directly involved unfortunately.

Van Nistelrooy to sign for Real Madrid on Wednesday

Ruud van Nistelrooy seems set to seal his move from Manchester United to Real Madrid tomorrow.


Although neither club are making any comment on the striker, rumours are circulating that the 30-year-old will have a medical in the Spanish capital on Wednesday.


If the speculation is correct, United have presumably reached a compromise over the fee after Sir Alex Ferguson suggested the Red Devils would demand £15million for the former PSV Eindhoven star.

Although Bayern Munich and a number of Premiership clubs had expressed interest in Van Nistelrooy, one of only eight players in United history to score 150 goals for the club, Real were always his favoured option.

With star striker Ronaldo sidelined after opting to return to Brazil for a knee operation, new Real coach Fabio Capello needed a proven goalscorer and earlier this week expressed his admiration for the player.

Providing Van Nistelrooy comes through his medical with no problems, it is anticipated he will be unveiled at some point in the next 24 hours and be reunited again with David Beckham after spending two successful years with the former England skipper before his own move to Madrid.

However, sources close to United cast doubt on the reports, privately claiming there had been no deal with Madrid and that Van Nistelrooy was still officially a Red Devils player.

Ferguson ready for Ruud return



Sir Alex Ferguson is prepared to roll out the welcome mat for Ruud van Nistelrooy's return to training with Manchester United on Monday.

The Dutch striker's future has been the subject of intense speculation throughout the summer, with both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich heavily linked with the 30-year-old. However, no deal will be completed over the weekend, meaning the forward is expected back at United's Carrington training base for the start of his pre-season work on Monday.

"Ruud is not definitely leaving and I expect to see him at training on Monday," Ferguson told PA Sport. "I spoke to (chief executive) David Gill on the phone on Thursday and there is no development as far as Real Madrid is concerned."

He added: "They have made an offer, we have rejected it. That is where the situation lies. If they don't come back in and increase their offer, he won't be going and I would be content with that. It would not bother me one bit.

"He is a striker who can score upwards of 20 goals a season and there are not many of those going around."

It was the first ever official match in the newly built Fly Emirates (Arsenal) Stadium, and they invited all his old buddies both from Ajax and Arsenal. I had tears in my eyes watching him the last time on the pitch

Duo back in Serie A


Lazio and Fiorentina have been reinstated to Serie A but Juventus remain in Serie B following their appeals against the sanctions imposed on them as a result of the match-fixing scandal.

The Rome and Florence outfits were originally relegated to Serie B and docked seven and 12 points respectively for the new season, but they returned to the top flight following an announcement by federal court president Piero Sandulli on Tuesday night.

Fiorentina will start the new season with a 19-point deduction, while Lazio will start with an 11-point deficit.

Juventus, the club hardest hit for breaking Italian Football Federation (FIGC) rules, remain in Serie B but have had their 30-point deduction reduced to 17.

But AC Milan, who avoided relegation under the original verdict, have seen their 15-point penalty for next season reduced to eight.
