No ... I don't think they are "stolen" per se... it's just that apparently they were linked directly, and the server that they were linked from doesn't allow that. Happens all the time, usually without the intent to "steal", but to the owner, that's the effect anyway.

The way a server can tell if the pics are linked from another site is from the HTTP Referer header. Sometimes site owners prevent others from directly linking to pics, and that's called an anti-leech feature. I use a filter that forges the Referer header so I'm not bothered by anti-leech features.
I strongly believe that use of the Referer header for any feature like that is ill-advised, but it's pretty much your only option if you want to try to prevent direct linking. But I'm sure no one cares about that but me

I wrote my own. It works like a web proxy, but it can arbitrarily change anything as it passes between my browser and the web.
