Oh, there's no concern about my confidence - in fact it is sometimes a little overwhelming for those who meet me. I just tend to know what I'm good at it, and haven't ever felt the need to downplay it or hide it. At the same time, I'm very quick to proclaim my weaknesses and deficiencies.
I think the real reason is that I don't want to exploit a virtue that I don't hold as my own and consequently stand out because of that. I'd much rather stand out for my personality, intellect, social commentary, critique. I try always to avoid judging another based on their appearance (at least in terms of absolute appearance - I recognize that relative appearance tells an incredible amount about who a person is).
For that reason, I really try to avoid posed shots of other people. I want them being themselves - it's the only way you can really get a picture that means anything. I mean, I suppose there it something nice about seeing how a person views themself (often the function of a pose) but I really wanna capture how you see them in your daily life. What's going to be more meaningful to you 30 years down the road?
Another reason is because I'm a person who personally doesn't enjoy concepts of vanity, yet do certain things to make others think I would. Call it a fear of giving the wrong impression - or any impression over which I don't have control.
Here's the facts: I eat very healthy, to the point where some people wonder if I enjoy what I eat (you bet I do!!). I exercise a lot, regularly. I take accute actions to preserve and maintain my body and skin (using high quality skin and facial care products).
But I don't do it because I wanna be muscular. I don't do it because I want to be radient. I do it because I wanna stay healthy. I never want my health to get in the way of my experiences. Without good strength and flexibility, my ability to recreate in other ways would be hampered. Without good eating, my energy and stamina might be impacted.
I don't want to die of heart disease. I don't want to have a stroke. I wanna get old and die because something I have less control over kills me. As I've said before, I see life as an opportunity to experience as much as possible and anything that can help extend that value is of the highest priority

Very insightful post and I agree that looks aren't everything, but being that this is a "members PICS" thread, how can we not comment on your pics? To be honest, I'm drawn to intellegence over looks, but looks don't hurt either. (Btw, is your avvy one of the characters from that Birdman lawyer cartoon (can't remember the name)? _________________
