I'm thinking of making a copy of a movie for some people in a class I'm taking. Does anyone have any good suggestions? Preferably something not pretentiously boring and maybe nothing too stupid or juvenile. I know this is really vague, but I haven't much experience with Japanese movies, so I'm unsure what I'm actually looking for unless I check the description out myself. Thanks.
I just wanted to mention that I made them a copy of Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu because I saw it last weekend and it was probably the best Japanese movie that I've ever seen. It totally sucked me in and very touching and heartbreaking at the same time. I think everyone should see this at least once.
And someone mentioned Twilight Samurai, so I'm going to either borrow my brother's copy or just do the Netflix thing myself, whichever happens first. _________________

Just watched Nana with Miyazaki Aoi. I have to admit when I first started watching I thought it wold suck but it's actually quite a good movie. It's not a "big" movie, and much of the filming and directing looks like what you would find in an independent film made on a small budget. I'd put the two main reasons for it being good are the characters and the actors. Several give you the feeling they'll be typical annoying, but turn out be well written and acted.
And for all of Miyazaki Aoi fans, she's smiling or pouting in most scenes; sometimes both.

Nana was pretty good....most agree....Nana 2 sucks ass. A total flop.
An excellent movie... With fine performances from Sanada Hiroyuki and Miyazawa Rie.
Written and directed by Yamada Yoji, who was in his early 70's when he made this film. After 40 years of making scores and scores of commercially and critically successful gendaigeki movies, this was his first attempt at a jidaigeki film. It won 12 out of 14 possible Japan Academy awards. Pretty successful first attempt.

The Hidden Blade was a pretty good follow-up as well.
I downloaded this, but it locks up ConvertX every time I try to burn it to DVD
I think you said you have Super. I've had some problems like that with the old tempgnc. I ran the offending drama thru Super outputting it with the identical specs and that cleared the problem.
If you are not aware of it, clicking on the file name after you imported it into Super, will display all the specs of the file.

Thanks to shin2, I saw two excellent films this weekend. Radio no Jikan and Shaberedemo, Shabaredemo.....both excellently cast with many familiar faces. Both films are comedies in the best tradition of Japanese comic films. Neither film dissapoints in any respect and will keep you laughing throughout. Radio no Jikan (1997) is a screwball comedy about a host of people producing radio dramas on a Japanese AM station. Shaberedemo, Shabaredemo (2007) is a comedy about a mediocre rakugo student and his attempt to impart his love of the art of storytelling to 3 individuals looking to change themselves for the better.
It was a slow, quiet kind of film. It took almost half of the film to introduce the background of the two main characters, so it's rather slow, and

, but it was by no means boring. I was interested by the story during its entire duration. I felt Tanaka Rena was very good but Chen Bo-Lin, though not bad, probably could have done a bit more with his role. The review on imdb is pretty much spot-on. I thought the ending was pretty good.
