I gotcha... I felt that way for a while, but after the disappointing English dub for Kiki's Delivery Service, I swore "never again."

And the reverse is true as well: the Japanese dubs in the Nodame SP are disappointing as well. bleh

I haven't seen Kiki dubbed yet. I saw Whisper Of The Heart dubbed, it was quite good Smile So was Spirited Away, despite what Ender's Girl said Wink Actually, Spirited Away was the first anime movie I ever watched.

I really disliked Phil Hartman's voice acting for Jiji the cat.

Not only that, but the English dub altered the ending... And the closing track was English and TOTALLY different from the original. bleh Shake Head

Lollllllll rofl Calciferrr is looooove!!!!!!

Try reading the original book (by Diana Wynne Jones). Miyazaki obviously changed some things, but the book is a fun experience in itself. (So is the book's sequel "Castle in the Air," in which our favorite ornery fire-demon takes on a... different form. Smile)

Ooooooh I didn't know there was a book! Now I'm gonna HAVE to find it and READ it!
If I didn't have a boyfriend I would soooo be dating Calcifer... jk XDDDDDD

As for the dub/ sub battle... live drama/ moviesI can't watch dub (it's awful!!!! Dunno how anyone can watch that O.O)... but when it's animated it depends on how it's done... there are some dubs that are absolutely terrible, but there are other dubs that I really enjoy and I think what on Earth is the point in struggling to understand the Japanese or read subs when I can just watch it in English? (yeah I took a quiz, apparently my sin is sloth... XDDDD)
I loved the dub for Full Metal Alchemist (not a movie I know... but just an example) personally I thought they did a really good job (apart fron Envy's voice and I was just totally confused as to why he sounded like an old woman rather than a young man ^^;;; XDDDD)

*Backpedals grudgingly* Grumble Ohhhhh all right, in the interest of Giving All Voice Actors a Fair Chance (even annoying little pseudo-actresses like that Sadako-wannabe Daveigh Chase, grrr bleh), I shall suspend judgment on the English-dubbed SPIRITED AWAY until I've actually watched the danged thing. Till then, I will be happy to STFU. Sweat

But when it comes to live-action dubs.... (and I can see we're all on the same page here)... in Rohrschach's own words:

"Never compromise!!!" Yeah

Hee hee! You should find the book(s) ensconced in the "Young Adult - Juvenile - Fantasy" section of your friendly neighborhood bookstore chain (Kiddie Fantasy Lit: my favorite section!!! I'm in my late '20s but somehow, my mind stopped developing after I turned 12, lol).

Boyfriend??? What boyfriend? A piddling little hiccup, my friend! Wisecracking, gluttonous, magicking fire demons vs. Boring little humans? No contest! lol (Besides... you can always... tip the human into the grate and forget he ever existed, eh? ...And you know how Calcifer is alwayssss hungry and can eat just about anythingggg... Naughty)

lol Hmmm... You and Calcifer--well, that should make a pretty hot date, don't you think? Just be careful you don't get... burned by love. hehe
