At least it's not a weep-fest like Crying Out Loud....... I hated that drama...
didn't get to see the dorama version. it has that really bad actor in it
the movie was pretty good though, didn't weep as much as 1 Litre of Tears. and it had this really nice japanese village feeling about it too _________________

I mistakenly posted this in the non-J-film thread, so I'm moving it here.
KUROSAGI (THE BLACK SWINDLER) - Why. Did. I. Even. Bother. (...answer is pretty obvious ) The only real "swindling" that occurred here was the viewer getting gypped into believing that this 2-hour clunker could be called a "movie." I couldn't last two minutes without hitting that trusty old FFWD button, and the only part I sat through in full was the song playing at the end credits. The scales have fallen from my eyes and I'm beginning to see the blankness (plankness?) slowly eating YamaPi 2.0 up like some wasting disease. (Don't try to be cool, YamaPi!!! Hold on to the silliness and the shallowness of youth! Too late... damn.)

With the temp outside floating in the mid 90s, I just spent the last two hours in my air conditioned living room watching "Detective Bureau 2-3: Go To Hell Bastards" and I have a hard time trying to imagin what would have made the afternoon go faster.
I have to admit though... I am, and have been for decades, a huge fan of Suzuki's movies, and I think Jo Shishido is one of the people who defined "cool" in the sixties. So I was primed to love this movie.
Like most of Suzuki's movies of the period this thing starts off at a hundred miles per hour, and never really has time to slow down for plot exposition, or character development. It just goes, and if you can't keep up, that's your problem. Suzuki made at least 4 movies in 1963 and he had no time for slow pokes.
The review BMW linked is... puzzling to me. It talks about Suzuki using this film to shatter cultural colonialism. Bushwa! This film featured Jo Shishido singing and doing "the old soft shoe" in a nightclub with his singer dancer girl friend. He had his Jazz scene, a little early rock and roll... As much as Suzuki loves traditional Japanese art forms (He's a Kabuki nut) he's heavily influenced by the era of the American Occupation, and he never shys away from it. He embrasses it.
All that said... there are some scenes in this movie that are so silly you have to just sit back and laugh along.
For those who "grew up" with this sort of movie... it's a joy. But I think anyone seeing it for the first time would probably be turned off. It is, if nothing else, dated.

Thanks Beemer.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Maybe it wasn't intentional, but I thought the film was quite campy... I couldn't help but think about the Japanese spy flick used in Woody Allen's What's Up, Tiger Lily?...
Now you have to check out 3 Seconds Before Explosion.

If my memory serves me right, a *certain* forum moderator--er, whatsisface, the one who's heavily into fast cars and Ueno Juri, though not necessarily in that order --once dubbed YamaPi "the Plague"... So I guess being called a skin fungal infection isn't a bad deal after all. Actually kind of an upgrade, ne? This could even mean that YamaPi has grown more... tolerable in the eyes of said moderator, yessss?

Oh my.
If in any way, shape, or form I actually promoted this "actor" even one subatomic fraction of an inch, I am definitely in error and throw myself at the mercy of Ueno Juri (address, please? ).....

Alrighty folks, I think it's time for me to check out some Japanese Movies... I've seen quite a lot of dramas and still do but I wanna watch some movies that's already been out/subbed when I have nothing to watch.
So anyone wanna kindly recommend me some movies. The ones I've already seen are like Crowz Zero 1 and 2, Silver Season etc. I'd like to check out some good ones. So I'm thinking like school life, fighting, sports, mystery, romance, etc.
Also is there a place to download jmovie torrents? I mean d-addicts don't give out movies so yeah. Just wondering. Thank you in advance.
