Just kidding. I posted before how I was disappointed with Mitani's last movie (Magic Hour), not because it was bad (it was actually decent), but because I just have such high expectations for his work. Let's hope he regains his form with this upcoming movie.
I thought it was interesting how Shinohara and Sato are reprising their characters (from different movies no less). Many of the actors mentioned have appeared in one or more of Mitani's previous films whether as cameos or principal/supporting characters. I wonder who's going to be playing the ghost?
I liked Magic Hour, but Rajio no Jikan rocked. Saw it thanks to you. But Uchoten Hotel was great though too.
Well, a lot of people went to see it. Hopefully that's a good sign

�gSuteki na Kanashibari,�h the newest film from acclaimed director Mitani Koki, opened this past weekend on 427 screens across the country. Over Saturday and Sunday, approximately 390,000 people went to see the movie in theaters, grossing about 533.4 million yen.
The movie outperformed even �gThe Three Musketeers,�h which opened on 721 screens on Friday. Over the two weekend days, that movie had an audience of about 200,000 people, grossing 322.0 million yen to rank #2 at the box office.
�gSuteki na Kanashibari�h is the 5th feature-length film directed by Mitani, starring Fukatsu Eri and Nishida Toshiyuki along with a star-heavy supporting cast.
�gSuteki na Kanashibari�h surpasses 1 million viewers

Mitani Koki�fs newest movie, �gSuteki na Kanashibari,�h topped the box office rankings for the second week in a row. In its first 9 days in theaters, the movie has already been seen by 1.3 million people and earned more than 1.6 billion yen.
The film is currently being shown on 427 screens nationwide. In its opening weekend, it grossed more than 533 million yen with approximately 390,000 viewers. This past weekend, another 313,000 people went to see the film, bringing in close to 414 million yen. Combined with its weekday numbers, the film�fs total audience so far adds up to 1,313,367 viewers with a box office gross of 1,623,979,000 yen.

Ashida Mana changes her image in �gLiar Game�h movie

Child actress Ashida Mana is setting aside her cute image to take on her first �gvillain role.�h She has been added to the cast of the �gLIAR GAME: Saisei�h movie that is being released next year, playing a member of the organization going against the protagonist played by Matsuda Shota.
Last month, plans for the new movie were first revealed, with actress Tabe Mikako taking over the heroine role instead of Toda Erika. The movie continues with the story from the previous drama series and movie, as the defeated Liar Game organization revives the game with the goal of getting revenge against the swindler Akiyama Shinichi (Matsuda).
Ashida will play the cool Alice, who works for the organization. It is said that Ashida will be holding back her trademark smile for the role.
The movie is currently filming in Ibaraki. Theatrical release is scheduled for March 3, 2012.

Namase Katsuhisa stars in movie �gSoup�h

Veteran actor Namase Katsuhisa has landed the starring role in a new movie called �gSoup�h by director Otsuka Yukichi. Although Namase co-starred with Koike Teppei for the �gSalaryman NEO�h movie that is currently in theaters, he has never been the single star of a movie before.
Namase plays Shibutani, an employee at a design firm whose career seems to never advance. He has a daughter, whom he has been raising by himself ever since his wife got tired of him and left. One day, Shibutani and one of his superiors named Ayase (Konishi Manami) both die in an accident. On the other side, there is a soup that they can drink in order to be reborn, but it would cause them to lose all their memories of their previous life. Each must make the difficult decision of whether or not to take the soup.
Two brothers are separated after their parent's divorce. Older brother Koichi (Koki Maeda) lives with his mother (Nene Otsuka) and grandparents in Kagoshima. Younger brother Ryonosuke (Oshiro Maeda) lives with his father (Joe Odagiri) in Fukuoka. Meanwhile, the Kyushu trainline connecting these two cities is nearing completion. A rumor spreads that when the bullet trains first runs (one coming from the north and one coming from south) and at the exact moment the two trains crosses paths energy is released and wishes will be granted to those that witness the event. Koichi hears of the rumor and implements a plan with his younger brother to reunite his family...

This I will concede. The avistaz file is a dvd rip as well encoded H264 so it ain't too shabby. Truthfully I've yet to watch the flick though. Just spot checked it.

Beat Takeshi, who stars with Ken Takakura in the drama �gAnata e�h (To You), says the 80-year-old veteran is like someone from a different world. The stars last appeared together in 1985 in �gYasha.�h
Takakura plays a prison counselor whose wife (Yuko Tanaka) dies at 53. Fulfilling his wife�fs wish to have her ashes scattered in her hometown, he embarks on a road journey, meeting all sorts of characters along the way. Takeshi plays a teacher. The cast also includes SMAP�fs Tsuyoshi Kusayanagi, Tadanobu Asano, Haruka Ayase, Koichi Sato and Mieko Harad.
Takeshi said working with Takakura was like standing in front of a statue of Buddha or saint.
The movie is scheduled for release in the fall of 2012.
