that's a very uncalled for remark - there are white actors that stink as actors and there are asian actors that really shine... so you can't really use such a generalised statement.

i've watched films from all over the world and i find that each country have it's own good and bad actors and actresses.. so such a racist remark is not very nice...

as for jun's acting, it's a matter of opinion. if u find that he is a bad actor, then just don't watch his film and dramas. if you're not a fan of his acting then i hope u're a fan of his in someway otherwise i'll wonder why u're posting in this thread full of Jun fans...

don't get me wrong. i love jun and everything, but i just don't think his acting's very good. i'll watch his films, but i just don't think his acting is as up to par as other people's out there.

and the whole white and asian thing. ok fine. that was general, but i didn't mean it in a racist way. as an asian, i've seen lots of actors out there, and i just don't think they're as good as other ones. and ok. i guess i've pissed jun and arashi fans off, as well as some others. so ok

okok. i just re-read what i wrote, and yes that was uncalled for because i didn't read what i wrote!! and if i saw what i just read, i would have totally changed it because that's not how i feel. my brain prolly wasn't working properly. the whole "maybe cause i'm so used to watching white actors, that are just so much better than asian ones". *sigh* ok. i understand why you guys are mad at me. i actually didn't mean that, tho i don't think you girls will believe me when i say that. and it was totally wrong wording. i don't go asian bashing all the time, or else why would i like these bands??

JusAnothaShorti,
oh i hope you do find your copy of Tokyo Tower, it's a MUST WATCH for matsujun fans!!! Smile

for jun vids, i suggest you go to Arashi thread, lots of vids there for download Smile

chubby_baby,
i think otherwise, jun is such a good actor. at his young age, he can very well portray a mature role already.

like what battlegirlai said, if you prefer white actors' acting then don't watch
no harm done. i respect ur opinion Smile

i just got up the thread now and i feel terrible reading chubby's post.
you better be dead drunk or forced with a knife behind your back when you bash asian actors like that!!

i don't mind some un-fan folks bashing jun's looks just like i bash kattun, that's really subjective, i agree.

as for jun's talent, i've grown up watching asian movies, western movies, bollywood, etc..., so i trust my judgement on an actor's acting capabilities. and jun's definitely got talent and potential.

and you gotta understand his local culture or watch enough japanese dramas/movies to understand some of their subtle body languages. even i don't get all the british humour but i never say they can't act!!!

and like what senpai and natchan said, if you don't appreciate asian shows, don't watch them and really don't waste your time here.

asians act from the inside out, whereas it's mostly the opposite for western acting. this is the fundamental difference in our culture too. if you've been to a meeting between easterners and westerners, you'll know. if you can't accept it, then stick to your end of the world!

EDIT

Welcome Leslie!!
Hope you post more! Really appreciate your speaking out.
I was really angry when i read chubby's post about the asian thing. i'm not being bias, i would jump to defense to if they said french or indians can't act next!!!

since we're on this subject, there's one thing that i feel awfully unfair that i feel like bringing it up now.

the awards.

every year asian directors gotta grind their brains to churn out some big budget movies or 'alternative-feeling' scripts so that they can enter 'international' awards. the reason for that is that many of the judges aren't asian and all the reels gotta be translated into the 'international language' ie. english. so lots get totally lost in translation or the culture connotations just don't come through.
of course, many of them are good, but some of them are just so meaningless or cringeable really to the local folks back at home.

and unfortunately asians are more used/brainwashed to seeing western stuff and culture then vice versa, so it's easier for us to judge them then the other way around.

that's why i feel that many good movies that win local awards can't even get pass round 1 in international award shows. which is truely unfair.

EDIT

sorry about 2 continuous posts, i just feel this is different.

@Shinobu
Got it already from Ryoko, but thanks a lot anyway!!! *hug*
(Btw, nice seeing more German Fans around here ^-^)

and for all that "Jun's acting skills-discussion" I can only say:
Sure, Asian actors do have a different way of portraying their characters and even move and gesticulate differently, but therefore it's kinda impossible to compare Western and Asian Actors, isn't it? I love both types and for Jun: I think he's a great actor considering how he's played so many different types of guys but still convinced me every time again with his play.

you know that's what I would have posted if you hadn't already spoken your mind!!!! most (please don't read it as 'all') european and american actors once play for example in a romantic comedy and are stuck on this genre forever, cuz you always picture his as 'the one that star-ed in ....' and even if (s)he tries to act in another genre it often fails!
That's what I love about Jun, his charcter in KwP and Gokusen could not have been more different, but he was still sooooooo convincing, UNBELIEVABLE! Jumpie
Can wait to watch TT now....^^

hi leslie! i do appreciate your comments and defense about jun. i totally agree he was great in kimi wa petto, his strongest role to date, but i don't think he did as well in gokusen or tokyo tower as he did in KWP. i know he has got potential to be a great actor, so i'll be waiting for that. i do think there are many good japanese actors out there, and that's why i've been obsessing over jdoramas for quite a while. it's just that, to me, english actors are able to express their characters' thoughts and feeling with a bit more ease than some other actors. i don't think they're "just so much better than asian actors". cause that's not what i usually think.

growing up watching HK shows during dinner, i've just never been so impressed by the acting. i definately agree that asia is being flooded with images from the western culture, and i think that it has some good and bad effects. if i were to grow up in asia where they act differently, i'd have a different opinion. but growing up in north america, i'm much more used to what i see now.

i guess i'll just stop for now cause you're prolly bored of what i've got to say. sorry i've got this whole pot stirring, not my intention to do so.

edit: and fybabe. i agree that more and more asians are becoming brainwashed. i'll be the first to admit myself as a victim. my friends like to call me a banana, but i can't disagree since it's the truth. as much as i love being chinese, i can't help but be affected by the growing impact that the westerns have on the majority of the world. i guess that's just me being a conformist... great...

ah...don't worry, I think we mis-interpreted your statement a little too! It's just you against a whole bunch of Jun fan(atics). hope we didn't scare you too much.
I think that just as Asians and western ppl have a different lifestyle and mentality, the same differnebce can be seen in their acting, when they express their feelings in the doramas/movies.
The main point of our/my criticism was that you can't just generalise 'american actorsare so much better than asian actors', but as you already wrote you didn't mean that (MISUNDERSTANDING!)

Moving on to another topic...^^
Welcome Leslie Irizarry and thanx for your comment on Jun's acting. definitely my opinion...*oops, drifting off to the last topic*

so jun's b-day is coming up! Any ?plans to conquer Japan and congrat him personally...no?...nobody?....wonder what the guys will do this year, since he has 'his b-day off from work' *g*

i don't mind being HIS present... hehe

well, i won't be surprised if they give him a lipstick or make up kit in the direction of his taste nowadays... i hope not Sweat
i hope it's something like dumb-bells or an English dictionary or facial treatments or a tv/movie script... anything useful at the moment for him.

i hope jun gets a new series soon. with his new haircut and look, i think he will be able to get almost any kind of role.

yes, i hope jun gets a new drama soon. he should be more prolific with dramas... movies and specials are ok, but a series is best..

i would like to see him have a more challenging role, something he has not done before...

hahhaaa. i liked the facial treatment suggestion. that's such a good idea tho! with all that celebrity status, don't they help get his craters out from his cheeks?? he's a sexy man, but just need a bit of help in the skin area...

isn't he rumored to be in gokusen 3??

how can the whole gokusen rumor thing still be going? that has been debunked so many times....didn't we go thru it here? or was that on the gokusen 1, 2 and 3 threads?

if there has been talk of a gokusen 3...which no one can prove....there has been no proof that jun is considering or being considered for it.

i reiterate that i'd hate to see jun return to the gokusen series...its a waste of his talents and would make for a very convoluted and painfully bad storyline.

he doesn't need to relive the past like that...he isn't so desperate that he needs to ride on the coattails of a previous success like that.

Personally, I think it would be cool if he returned in Gokusen 3 (but as you say, it's only rumors...old rumors lol)

Anyway, I finally got round to watching Gokusen, and OMG....I was speechless. He is such an amazing actor, and soooo hot. Nut
Now I really want to see Kimi wa Petto and Tokyo Tower. Grumble

guess i must've skimmed over that part. but i'd like to see him in gokusen 3. i still love that series for some reason. it's just fun to watch! tho, i would like to see him in a more challenging role. something he's never done before, cause it would be great to see him do something new and fresh!

I totally agree (btw, why did you say that you can't return to the arashi-thread?? Confused edit: ah got it no need to explain! )
I remember having this discussion a long time ago too! I think seeing Jun in the series again would be horrible, he should try something new, most of thhe movies that have sequel flop.
He did such a great job in Gokusen, I don't want to ruin this 'perfect' pic of Jun as Sawada that I have in my head and if the script writes give him a wierd role/part just because they've run out of ideas that would be devastating for me!!!! Shameful Cry Shameful Cry Shameful Cry Shameful Cry
