Never post past midnight. Beaten I think ChibiBoi wants to have more fonts than the standard ones XP includes. I think Japanese support is already set up (am I wrong?) on the computer.

What you need to do is the following (assuming you are using XP):

1) Open up the Control Panel.

2) Open Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options.

3) Click on "Regional and Language Options" and a new window should pop up.

4) Click on the "Advanced" tab.

5) Under "Language for non-Unicode Programs," change the highlighted option to Japanese.

That should allow any program you want to use in Japanese to be installed and display properly without mojibake.

HTH,

There is also an English patch for Winny that will display the menu items in English, but doing what Kokuou says will definitely work.

Only saw this concern after the previous reply from kalayaan, although it maybe 2 years too late for a reply. Beaten

Arnel98,
Regarding the use of numbers, just use the standard format. ie: 1,2,3, etc. Majority of the time, Japanese don't use the Japanese/Chinese system of writing numbers. The "English" way WILL suffice. Japanese people recognize the use of 1,2,3,etc already and don't really use C@C@OCetc.
However if you want to know, you can copy and save the proceeding because this is how 98 would be in numbers.

or....

Use according to your discretion.

yup, 2 years too late, hehehe.
thanks anyway

new question regarding japanese writing.
If you're writing kanji/katakana/hiragana vertically, how would it be?
Is it like:
J
D
O
R
A
M
A
or is it like:
JDORAMA rotated 90 degrees (assuming jdorama is a japanese word)?
or does it matter?

i think it really depends on to whom you're writing to, and in what context. case in point, if you are going to be writting a term paper, (I.E. more formal) then it's from up to down. but i think nowadays more people write from horizontally than anything. if you just go to any JP web page, it's that moreso than vertical.

arnel98 got the question wrong, I guess. Vertical writing in Japanese doesn't rotate the characters, but the position of commas (ten) etc. changes, so the ten go to the right side as well as the full stop (maru). So it's more like

J
D
O
R
A
M
A

lol that's funny Smile no offense, but it would be so freaking difficult to write a kanji under an angle of 90. Thank god we don't need to practice writing them at 2 angles Smile Basically, if you WOULD write under an angle, everybody would just rotate the paper because it's easier to read and write. So as arglborps said, you just write from top to bottom, with the top and bottom of each character just as usual.

[for people who know hiragana] try to write the hiragana@ [me] upside down. Without analyzing the strokes in advance (so just from your memory). And don't copy a rotated one. It's really difficult, it took me like a few minutes to manage writing it correctly. rofl

@arglbops & supermidget: thanks for the response...

@supermidget: yes, i figure it would be hard to write kanji at 90 degrees... hehehe. I was thinking along the lines of typing kanji in the computer...Smile
