And here is the synopsis :
Mt. Takao is located on the outskirts of Tokyo. Hana and Akari Komori grew up there in a teahouse owned by their parents. When Hana was still 20, she left the mountain with high expectations of finding happiness. Hana's belief was the only person that can give her happiness is herself. Akari was only 6-years old when Hana left home. But every time Hana was unsuccessful in love, marriage, and work, she would always pack up and return home.
Akane is in junior college when her 34-year-old sister Hana returns home. Their father Kichitaro is furious with Hana. "You're 34 and single. What in the world are you doing back home?" On the other hand, Hana's mother Asako has a worried look on her face. Everybody thought that after staying a week, Hana would go back to Tokyo like she always does. But this time, the situation is different. "I'm going to find myself a husband here, and take over the tea house" says Hana.
Meanwhile, Akari, who is busy job-hunting, thinks to herself, "I'm not like my sister. I will definitely find happiness on my own!" Despite all of her visits to interviews, Akari hasn't received a single job offer. Still 20, she is already suffering from the frustrations of life.
Since Hana started helping out her parents' teahouse, she has stopped wearing make-up, and doesn't care about the way she looks anymore. Kichitaro is disappointed with her. "Nobody here cares how I look anyway," she tells him. Besides, the only "men" that Hana meet are Ken Takubo, the cable-car driver, Jurota Yamada, the keeper at the monkey-zoo, and Junpei Koizumi, a young guy working at the pub located in the foothills of the mountain.
Akari's boyfriend, Tetsuro Takamura, is a medical student and the heir to a giant hospital. Akari's friends are envious of her, but unaware of Akari's guilt towards Tetsuro. The truth is, in front of Tetsuro, Akari had been acting like she comes from a rich family. They've been going out for three months, but Akari still hasn't told her boyfriend that she lives in the mountains and her parents run a tea house. She makes an excuse of having a strict curfew, but actually, she just wants to catch the final cable-car that will take her home.
One day, when Hana is walking alone on the mountain, a foreign man suddenly grabs her arm. "You think Japanese girls are weak, eh?" Hana punches the man right in the face. Rubbing his hurt nose, the man holds out Hana's hair ornament that she dropped—a gift from her mother. It turns out that the man just wanted to give it back to her. As an apology, Hana buys him a drink at a nearby "beer hall." The man's name is Keith Corbett. "I came from New York on business, a year ago," he says. "Just hurry up and drink that" says Hana. If anybody sees her here with a man, the whole mountain will start talking. Unfortunately, by the next morning, the whole mountain finds out, causing an uproar.
Meanwhile, Akari finds out from Hana's friend, the real reason why Hana came back home: Hana's fiancé at work cheated on her, and even had her fired. While Akari is still in shock, Tetsuro tells her that he wants to take her somewhere. Akari says yes, and follows him to...... his parents' home.
At about the same time, Keith shows up at the teahouse. He tells Hana that the mountain relaxes him. Hana replies, "Well, I hate it!" Keith continues by asking "If I come here again, will I be able to see you?" "......" Hana doesn't know what to say.
