Considering I just bought an external hard drive not long ago, I may need that info on salvaging a dead drive one of these days
Well, the only DIY project I'm even thinking of doing is a headphone amp. My soldering skills are lame, but I'm hoping it's not lame enough to prevent me from making an amp.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you'll be able to salvage it somehow.

Get the right size solder tip for the project and use lots of flux.

You get used to it: I've reworked more than a lifetime's worth of PCBs... *passes out*

FINALLY got a new PC at work:
Dell Optiplex 330
2.40GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB RAM
250GB HDD
DVD/RW burner
20" LCD 1680x1050 monitor
Wonder how fast this thing can hardsub/encode raw files...?

They're okay... I'd rather build one from scratch, though.

You bet.
I finally transferred all of my files from the old PC and installed all of that legacy software (CAD/CAE stuff)...
Tomorrow, I'll try a hardsub job using VirtualDub.

True dat. Cheaper, pretty much affords you more flexibility with the components, and you can tailor the appearance to fit where you want it.
The only thing I need for mine right now is a decent case, and then its time to hook it up to the TV.

No sure how much cheaper it really is, but yeah, I always wanna pick my components...

I'll admit this: the Dell has a nice case... Very modular and you don't need a screwdriver at all... And a really quiet fan.

If it's anything like my new one, you'll be impressed with the difference.

With a new, speedier computer at work, I think anyone would be tempted to use it.
And I got my new laptop in! Haven't even opened the box yet, but I will soon! _________________
