It might be sooner than you think, since Panasonic has already introduced their Blu-Ray machine... And the $25 discs that go with 'em... Yeowch.

Yeah, when VHS first came out, the tapes were around $20....

Status: Still trying to get used to the software and stuff... It appears that the video generated from the DVcam is always in AVI format, shich mean I have to convert the AVI file to MPEG2... Very CPU intensive, I'll bet. And I still have to pick up a big ol' HD to store the files... From a rough calculation, it looks like I'll need 13GB per hour of digital video footage... Whew.

Yep. I guess I'd better load up on the DV tapes, since I can only record one episode (1 hour) per tape at the max quality setting...

might be cheaper to buy a big hard disk to store your raws - u can usually get 200gb for $99 these days w/ rebate ^_^

T-minus 30 hours and counting 'til episode one.... Picked up a 160GB HD at Fry's for storing the DVC-reorded movies and a couple more Hi8/D8 tapes for recording... Tested out the hookups for recording on air stuff through my VCR's tuner into the DVC... Perfect! Now I'm gonna pipe the DVC video into the PC and check out the video playback quality.

Hmm, not bad: I downloaded the DV and created the MPEG2 datafile with no problems. Burned a DVD for playback and the picture quality looks pretty darn good. I think I can increase the video quality some more and still be under the maximum... This is sorta fun.

I think it should be okay. Each series stands on its own, I'm sure...
