You are MUCH better off posting this in a Korean forum rather than here. The description is so vague. Sweat Try Soompi's forum and Koreanfilm.org's forum.

Btw, the only guess I can make is "Snowflakes", with Yoon Son Ha. In that show she wanted to be a chef or was one, I forget. But I don't know about anyone wanting to be a musician so that's probably not it Sweat

Ah, sorry about such a bad & vague description. I honestly didn't see much of the series. /).(\
And thanks for giving me a place for korean dramas, I hope they'll be able to tell me the title!
If anyone has a channel on TV that shows Korean dramas, it was a KBS series....if that made sense? ^ ^()

Anyways, thanks to both of you for your help and reading my message. ^ ^

Hey everyone, why is Bae Yongjoon in "Winter Sonata" so appealing to Japanese women? I haven't seen the drama so I have no idea. Is he extraodinarily good looking? I've seen a lot about this guy in news articles.

I watched the drama, "Winter Sonata" and Bae is everything that most people want in a partner through his CHARACTER. However, Bae's charming, sweet looks and demeanor from the drama have also wormed there way into his star personale. Bae was a young, carefree high school student talented in piano, excelled in school--but never boasted about it, had extremely good taste in clothing as an adult....

::::::::::: SPOILER FOLLOWS, SPOILER HERE!!!!!! ::::
and he gave her up, the love of his life, so that she could be happy, then went blind due to an accident. Then he built a dreamhouse that she had designed (she had an architect-related job), lived in it, and in the end when she came to visit him after five or so years, he felt it was her and told her how much he had missed her.

NO ONE CAN COMPETE WITH BAE's character in "Winter Sonata," but Bae represents him to masses of women in Japan and Korea, Japan's ranging from ages of 17 to the 60s, people. In fact, even I had a crush on Bae. He has a smile that lights up and infects everyone, and whether or not he isn't speaking a lick of Japanese or not, the idea that Korean men treat their girlfriends like pieces of treasure fallen from heaven has Japanese women interested in their Korean counterparts across the sea. At least for now. We have to keep in mind that Korea and Japan have quite a history. And while we see Korean men getting with Japanese girls, the opposite isn't so true for Korean girls and Japanese men.

In any case, there's also a GIGANTIC wave to learn anything related to Korea now--especially the Korean language. There are tons of books with the entire script to "Winter Sonata" in Korean with Japanese translation and pronunciation guides so you can experience Bae in his native Korean. The success of Korean movies and artists in Japan is also astonishing. Staring along side Bae was Park YongHa who is catching the eye of younger Japanese women with his amazing vocals and dashing style. No one even knows the names of the Korean actresse staring along side Bae and Park. That should say something. But personally, Park is a cutie! And I am watching him on Utaban next week when he plays B-ball with Nakai from SMAP, hehehe!

That's interesting info. So is Winter Sonata popular in Taiwan too? Does Bae have the same effect on Taiwanese women?

For brad2,

your review there has been really helpful! I just had to get my 'research' done up before i start a series. That's when I bumped into your review. I read thru all the other pages of comments too. Many non-Korean viewers expressed surprise that Korean audiences were rooting for the boss and Byung Soo to be together. I am currently only at Ep 1 and I'm already rooting for the boss and Byung Soo to be together! Cos the lady boss seem to yearn and covet love so much. Yes, she's a twisted soul but perhaps KRW's character might heal her. Plus the female lead's character is a tad annoying and spoilt at EP 1, so my sympathies is with the boss.

Aren't these just rip offs of dramas/movies from other countries (America or Japan)?. I jsut looked at the list of KDRAMA on ORIENTVISUAL web site and a lot of the titles sound the same as those, but with either Korean or Chinese cast.

^ now that is one BIASED statement if i ever heard one... that's like saying... aren't europeans just clones from africans cuz they have the same design with 2 eyes a nose and a mouth.... just as we're all uniquely special so are dramas.. they are all uniquely different.... true some ideas were taken from other countries...but this applies to all countries as well.. yes even japan..
i think its all just to show/share the story with a whole new audiance, that would other wise proably newer experience.... i think the best example of this is the hugelly succesfull TW-drama METEOR GARDEN.. meteor garden is just a taiwanese remake of the old japanese drama HANA YORI DANGO.. which alot of ppl never saw... but had a great story.. meteor garden has been able to show this story to a mass of ppl that would other wise never experience it....

Interesting how it is in the world, in america there is a boom for japanese anime, while there is a boom for korean dramas in japan right now ^^
especially winter sonata is really popular and the main character (they call him yon-sama in japan hehe ) is reeeeally popular. when he visited japan there were like 5000 women waiting for him at the airport..and most of them where like over 40 years old Bleah
