From Sam Neil to the Mayor's pain in the butt daughter... I thought everyone did a great job in that movie.

It was also something of a major revelation for me. I remember all the commentary on TV and on the radio about the radio telescope installation in Australia. And I guess, because I was a kid at the time, I had this glossy picture in my head of what Parkes must have looked like.

The picture of a gigantic radio telescope sitting in the middle of a sheep paddock never occured to me.

It's probably one of the coolest sights I've ever seen.

i saw a documentary recently about the conspiracy theorists who claimed that the apollo 11 moon landing never occured. an expert in support of nasa had an answer to every criticism against these people including absolute proof regarding the mirror left on the surface that reflects lasers fired at it.
they still weren't satisfied!

Someone must be having a hard time selling the phones to resort to forum spamming

I just finished a really nice meal and am having a wonderful evening!

I grilled (on my grill pan - no barbecue in an apartment, silly) some top sirloin (my fav) and steamed some broccoli w/ red peppers and made some curried rice and topped it off with a healthy dose of a really lovely Columbia Crest cabernet. I've been living super lean recently and this was a total treat!!

Now I'm cleaning up the kitchen and listening to some Cake.

And maybe I'll make myself some hot chocolate (from high quality unsweetened cocoa, of course) and have some fresh raspberries as dessert

I think I sold my broccoli short. It is local farmer's market broccoli that I hand chose on Thursday. I steamed it with tarragon and ponzu and it was awesome. The perfect accompaniment to my dinner ensemble

Cake's a really great band - some of the coolest lyrics out there. John McCrea (I think) has some very interesting things to say.

I remember like 6 years ago hearing Short Skirt and a Long Jacket on the radio. After hearing it, I knew I had to find what other interesting things they had done... and seriously, that's just the beginning.

Something I constantly try to avoid - there are always new things that are worthwhile... it's harder and harder to get to them today if you aren't in the know too. I just have adopted the model that where I hear a song I like, I find the artist and do a "preview" of their entire discography ;-)

I rarely listen to the radio other than the news and sports... I think people just seem to reach a point where the music brings about a shrug.

That said, I'm really enjoying my classical music renaissance...

Cake are (were?) awesome. The Distance is a great song. So is their cover of I will Survive
