He's probably going to dominate sports radio, again. Grumble I mean the local sports station I listen to, never talks about golf. When the whole 'Tiger thing' happened that's all they talked about. Sweat

To be honest I don't want to hear him say anything.
It's just an impossible box he is in and I for one have no interest.

That makes three of us.

Btw, Peg, your posts are some of the most interesting I've read in a long time! Thanks for hanging out here! glomp

Wynter,

Glad you find some interest in my memories. Actually if you live long enough you are bound to have something going that is new again.

I don't know quite what started me on these things but it was something said by a poster right here I think. Have never discussed that time anywhere else in detail.

I was just wondering what became of the gas mask I had to carry around all the time. The usual saying before leaving the house was "Got your gas mask and got your flashlight?'
We had separate ration books for sweets (candy) I remember I ate one Cadbury fruit and nut bar almost every day. I have never eaten them since. I am not a candy person. Give me champers and caviar anytime. Dancing Dancing

Eve,
It is really too tough to think of all the school chums who did not survive the war. I knew too many of them. The head boy of the boy's school died in his fighter plane on the bank of the river Meuse and he was not yet nineteen.

We had family friends who were in Singapore when it fell to the Japanese army. They were expecting them from the sea but not coming down from the north. It took a long time to come to terms with emotions and feelings. Years in fact.
I am thankful that I was able to sort it all out and realise that the war was over sixty years ago and the people living their lives now don't have a clue about the war. This goes for Japan and Germany and England.
Life goes on and to be balanced we have to go on with it.

Peg

Yes, I read the same thing. I think many fruits of the vine, wine included, have seen a reduction in prices due to the recession.

I have a bottle of Veuve Clicquot and Cristal in the fridge now as we speak. Been there for ages...

Yes, indeed.

And hopefully human kind has learned enough not to permit such again.

I feel lucky to have been born a sheltered American. For us WW2 seems farther removed than for my husbands family in Norway for example.

And did you figure a way to open those bottles of champagne you mentioned before... Big Grin

Anyway, ON Topic:
What a fab day in Vancouver!! Here's to World's Sports rather than World WaR! yippee

Well lucky you weren't Japanese-American at a time when they suffered Manzaar, Tule Lake, and other internment camps. Sweat

Tu_triky,

I don't think you should keep the champagne in the fridge too long. I think I read that somewhere once upon a time..... Does something to the bubbles.

Or a Gypsy, Jew or Catholic in the Concentration camps.

Hats off to Brad2 for having survived through it! Victory! Peace!

re concentration camps.
After the war ended officially my husband was seconded to an RAF section to pilot VIPs around Europe. He was flying Sir Alexander Korda to some of the camps. Not a thing to be happy about. Korda making notes all the time. They went to Berchtesgarden and up into the vacation place where Hitler entertained his friends. This must have been a strange experience although Roy did not talk much about any of it.

There were other journeys with odd results like an exploding beer barrel which was meant for the officer's mess. Two upper echelon officers mad as wet hens and in very smelly uniforms. There was humour around the mess despite the loss of the beer. rofl It wasn't all rockets and bombs.
