Yeah...this should probably be in the crap about work thread, but there's been layoffs at my work, and I've been putting in extra effort to keep from being on the layoff list. I used to remember what free time was like....

Just remembering a few things. This is really for our BeastieGirl I think.

Have you ever seen a Black Nubian goat? They are the most beautiful creatures. When you stroke them it feels like swansdown or silk satin. They are so shiny and very gentle. The first time I met one was years ago in upstate New York. Visited two Shaker ladies who raised the goats and milked them for their everyday use and giving to neighbours.

Out in the country and Adirondack mountains it seemed a peaceful life. I think there are only a few Shakers left now, maybe a dozen.
They also used to make the wonderful furniture such as the chairs that could be hung on hooks on the wall to clear the room for dancing (shaking) and singing hymns etc.
Such a devoted life, but sadly ever diminishing with their celibate philosophy.
They seemed to be so happy and complete.
The goats were so beautiful and I always remembered how they looked and felt.

I have some Shaker furniture (repros), love their elegant simplicity.
I have only heard about the Nubian Goats.
Thought about raising Llamas for awhile but decided against having an animal that spits when it is annoyed. Also considered ostriches until I learned they can go into random panic and commit suicide running into their own fences.
