When i was coming to LAX from JFK, my flight got delayed by 13 hours, but i was travelling around, and the airline didn't have a contact number, so we went straight from the bus station to the airport. Got there at 2pm to check in. Sat around because we were on standby for another flight...

so yeah, we left JFK at 3am. i can't even count how many hands of Pu Soi Deus we played that day.

I'm pissed off! Last time I got sick (sinus infection and bronchitis, what I get most of the time I get sick), I went to the ER b/c I couldn't sleep from being unable to breathe. My primary doctor wasn't open, so I went to the local ER. I was told to follow up w/ an Ear/Nose/Throat doctor for seasonal allergies. I told her I get about 3-4 sinus/upper respiratory infections per year and that I used to get allergies as a kid, but never got treated for them and just sucked it up. She told me to get checked out. I never went to doctors as a kid w/out a fever or problem. I didn't have insurance. I'm still reluctant to go to doctors because I'm used to only having to go when I'm sick.

Anyway, went to the ENT today, who came highly recommended to me by 5 of my co-workers. Really nice and thorough doctor. I told him "I'm here to get something for seasonal allergies". I really didn't have much info for him. He started asking me about my infections. He looked up my nose and turned out the light with some thing that looked like a waterpik w/ a flashlight inside Crazy He then told me "Well, you have a deviated septum. One of your sinuses are completely blocked while the other is more than half blocked. You probably broke your nose or injured it around age 2-3 without knowing it, and it healed crooked. Your airways are partially blocked, do you have trouble breathing?". EHHHH???????????? He asked if I have a lot of headaches. I told him that I don't really anymore, mainly occasionally from stress, etc. But I realized I hadn't told him I used to get really bad headaches. I get them much less often since I've been working full time. He said "I'm surprised you aren't in a lot of pain". He asked my symptoms of when I get infections and I told him "pressure in the nose and face, stuffed nose w/ post-nasal drip, but no matter what I do it doesn't clear so I can breathe", which is true, I hate it. After the post-nasal drip, I usually develop phlegm to gag on and/or bronchitis. I also told him that I think i have some allergies at random parts of the year and couldn't pinpoint a season, I guessed Sept-Dec but told him I used to get sick every November and March, but that it's now thrown off and I get sick right before summer now too. Now I can't tell WHEN I'll get sick anymore, it seems to be random now.

He ordered me to get a CT scan to confirm severity and make plans if necessary, but he said it's likely that I need surgery to correct my stupid nose Shameful Cry I should find out on 12/16 Puppy Dog Eyes

I'm pissed. #1: I've been having these sinus problems (which I didn't know were problems as I'm used to sinus pressure and infections) for YEARS, and nobody caught this! #2: I DON'T WANT SURGERY. #3: I don't like PAIN.

Get a second, maybe third opinion, K, before ANY surgery.

My mom had some sort of sinus operation a number of years ago. Before the operation, they packed her nasal passage with pure pharmaceutical cocaine. I was pretty upset she didn't bring me home a doggy bag Shameful Cry

Well good luck. Sounds like it's causing you a real problem so it's a good thing this doctor caught it. Hope it works out. Operations do suck, but when they work, they really can change your life for the better.

I have the same problem. Shameful Cry

Anyway, I take Nasacort AQ link every morning and have no problems. Cost me 10$ per month, but I prefer it to surgery and it's cheaper than pure pharmaceutical cocaine like loris suggested. Wink

it only bears out the fact that some doctors are more astute than others....as suggested...get multiple opinions before making a big decision concerning your health.

@Kouseiya: That sucks that you have that problem. I hope things go well for you if you do end up going through with surgery to get rid of that problem.

Man, that sucks.

I checked in the dictionary for Whig:

1. Acidulated whey, sometimes mixed with buttermilk and sweet herbs, used as a cooling beverage.
2. Whig -- (urged social reform in 19th century England).
3. Whig -- (a supporter of the American Revolution).
4. Whig -- (a member of the Whig Party in the United States in pre-Civil-War times).

As far as I can remember Eisenhower was president in the 50's and the stuff here is 19th century, so the correct answer is disagree.

you don't like pain, that's cool. but wouldn't you want that to be corrected so you can breathe? i mean, it's GONNA have to fixed anyways sooner or later right? might as well get it taken cared of while you have insurance.
