That's hilarious. I thought you knew how to speak japanese but had a heavy accent.
I just watched the drama and I liked it a lot. It was pretty funny. The ken guy and the guy who eloped with monkeys are the funniest.

Or where can later episodes be found? The first one was interesting, but I'd like to see a few more before making any firm decisions on the series. | i've heard conflicting stories about going either way. i guess we'll just have to wait and see, but yeah, i'm with you. after watching the 1st one, it looks promising. _________________

Hi there, it's Mark Condon here again. I just logged onto the site and was really surprised to see so many posts in reply to my original post! - thank you all so much, especially mono_jojo - you wrote some really kind things. I hope I can meet you one day too.
As for niko2x, I did actually think that most people wouldn't believe me, as you're right, what's to stop someone just creating a name and posting that they're Kimura Takuya or whoever, you're right.
However, I am Mark Condon, the guy who played Keith, I'm not quite sure how I'm going to prove it, maybe I could post some photos from behind the scenes or something.
To answer your questions, I am currently in an agency but as there are absolutely no other Japanese tv dramas which use foreign actors regularly (Hako Iri Musume! was a first), my prospects aren't looking good in the tv industry. All I have in the pipeline for the moment is the odd CM, but I'd really like to have a go at a movie.
Thank you again for all your support.
Mark

Mark | altho the possibility exists that you could be "keith", i'm (among others) may or may not be ready to believe that you are the real deal. but if you are mark, we do wish you the best of luck and hoping you continue your work.

Just finished watchin the first ep. What can I say? Looks very promising, indeed!
Naoko, again, we see her character being a career woman's role as always, fits to her perfectly.
This gaijin guy is pretty cool. Naoko's love interest, perhaps? Adds more interest to the drama. This guy seems like a silly person as he speaks broken Japanese (can't take him serious) and when he speaks English he's like serious person as seen the in the western soaps. How to say this? The comparison is like a day and night, two totally different persons. Or maybe I haven't got used to seeing a foreigner in jdramas. We rarely see non-japanese havin a big role in jdramas. Actually I've never seen any.
WAAH! What's takin #FOB so long to release the 2nd ep?!? It's been at least 9 months since they released 1st ep...The endin credit is quite amusin.
Mark
Thank you for your effort at makin this drama and introducin yourself to us. I really can't say anything about your performance after seeing the first ep. I'm sure your performance improves as the story is advancin.
Sorry to hear about the current situation in the tv industry. I thought the japanese entertainment industry would be a piece of cake for the non-japanese who speak their native language, more prosperity. Must have been due to the oversupply. Japanese tend to like the foreigners. I must have been pretty outdated.
I wish you the best of luck in the future! Hopefully we get to see you in the movies and in the forum too! I have so many things to ask of you, dunno where to start, hehe. GAMBATTE!

The gaijin is played by a relative newcomer by the name of Mark Condon. I think this is his first acting job, and he is portrayed as the usual gaijin from the Japanese view -- speaks Japanese with a horrendous accent, doesn't know proper Japanese customs etc. but is very sweet to Japanese women.
Being a foreigner in Japan, I just detest other foreign actors being typecast. It's like back in the pre-WW2 days when Americans typecasted Japanese as miniature Asians with buck teeth and thick glasses, or every Chinese as people who know kung fu. |
Typecast?????? It's like back in the pre-WW2 days?????
How else was Mark Condon supposed to play this role? With a Yamagata accent wearing Tabi? Judging from his English, Condon was not even an American--probably Aussie, New Zealander or Brit. The character Condon played, Keith, did not have buck teeth, huge nose, shabby attire, or a hillbilly accent, nor was he one of many illegal alien Gaijins in Japan today. He was a tall, handsome, successful investment banker. Very pre-WWII.
What more do you want?

I dunno much about the drama, it's about two sisters and an onsen in the countryside. A gaijin guy is an elder sister's love interest.
Starring two beauties Naoko Iijima and Kyoko Fukada. I can't wait to see the series! |
BTW, it's a very good drama.
