That's my Chinese name. I don't know if there is a way to pronounce these kanji in Japanese, though.

Here's the meaning if that helps.

 - roof beam; bridge; ridge; a surname.
珩 - the top gem of a girdle-pendant (as worn by aristocrats and high officials)

ǂL܂I
even tho one may have a chinese name, it may or may not be pronouced in kanji (more than likely it's not). Case in point, i have a chinese name, as well as friends that are chinese descent living in JPN. When i fill out forms in japan, it is ALWAYS in katakana, even tho it has a 'kanji'. whereas my friends there, they have a chinese name AND japanese name. don't mean to disappoint, but that is how things are done there.

a while ago i maintained an ID "alexriversan".
people visited my site, and i wondered, it was looking they were scared
and not visiting a second time, most likely only displaying main page.

1. the website provider automatically extends "san". means it was two times san. in a somehow superstitious society, this is very questionable.

2. alex is not japanese (contains x), however, it is possible to render the name into katakana.

3. why river. is has a second meaning in japanese, i did not knew. my choice was becuase of a softdrink brand "river" (long ago) and i simply like rivers.

the ID did not turn out to be successful, and i have taken it down.

if you are going to create an (email) ID in japan (as a foreigner). probably this story is useful for you. japanese tend to add a number suffix, and it is not wrong to show conformity. guess any biased ID won't get much reply.

now, i hope NIKEMOTO is a good choice: two mainstream brands, and "moto" occurs as part of japanese names. in addition, i add a datestamp (four numbers but does not matter, it is not counted).

because i do not have an exclusive right to this ID. you can make up a "nikemoto12345"... w00t!

and, please do not write the number four, if it is avoidable. sometimes i see it on the net, especially four thousand, and these people are just looked at. if it is the month, write it out (april).

i hope this post is not considered s-pam.
i hope my avatar now suits western mainstream expectation.
however, at my own site, i do not hesitate to link to people i like.
because it was told to me (here), it would be expected to 'honour' a
so-called "entertainment chic", i spent time which one would suit me
best, and, today, i have made up a "mini interview" about popular items,
like actors, manga etc.

however the site only has a few anchors in english, and i have not made it
up to be discussed by western people (U.K. etc.). sorry if it sounds rude.
of course i can give you the link to it.

i am interested in japanese entertainment, and probably i make a sub-page (soon) listing up what i know right know. this would be the right thing to link to from here.....

Doh! just saying, do not make up "strange" ID or people will most likely not
reply/visit again. i made this experience and have deleted everything.

I think that's a little extreme.
Now, I haven't seen your page, but it's HIGHLY unlikely that people didn't come to your page because of your ID.
Especially if you are talking about Japanese people.

The reason is more likely that your site is not written in Japanese, and therefore no interest is taken in your site. It's like me opening up a page written in French. Sure, I took it in high-school and I could read it fine if I looked up every second word, but I don't have the time nor patience to do that.

Or it may be because of your site content. Maybe it's just not that interesting (I've never seen it, so I'm merely speculating).

If I were you, I would stop being so paranoid.

Just a thought,

it was written in japanese. Doh! it had at least a few hundred visitors. it has not increased. some days no one visited. so there must have been something wrong.

i guess the ID was not choosen too lucky. Grumble
another thing was i had many "link by image", and the majority of japanese homepages does not do it very much. well from out of the pages i have visited.

just saying, do not extend an id with "san" because some providers do that automatically. and yes, if a funeral car passes by, i hide my thumbs. Fingers crossed

Well, I'm not sure what your level of Japanese is, but even if it were written in Japanese, maybe it just wasn't at a level that was easily comprehended by native speakers.

And the site was a personal site, right? It's not like your site had the popularity of Google or something that has hundreds of thousands of visitors per day.
The chances of someone just surfing the net and happening to stumble upon your site are way less than finding a needle in the haystack. Probably even less than getting struck by lightening and winning the lottery in the same day.

What I'm trying to say is that just because your site didn't have any visitors (of which the most likely would be YOUR FRIENDS or at least people you know AND NOT random people just coming across your page) doesn't mean that it's because of your login ID.
So what if you had "san" stuck to your name.
It's not enough to make people be scared of you or your site.

the site had pictures of spiders. i assume, 9 people out of ten do not like them. no one asked for more spiders.

however, though interesting, it gets off-topic (your name in japanese). in my opinion, a pleasant name makes people buy/visit/visit again. previously, i thought "spiders" etc. are entertaining, but i changed my mind.

why i write here is "my name in japanese" of course. however this is connected to many external circumstances, and not just the literally meaning. "NIKEMOTO" (not the ID for my new website) is a good choice (i hope that). people do not like to remember "strange" "uncanny" ID. "alexriversan" just does not sound too good, though rememberable.

i would hire "NIKEMOTO" (based on more details of course).
i would probably not reply/hire "ALEXRIVERSAN" (non rational).

ofcourse the way people feel about your site depends on the name. but it depends on so much more. For me the most important thing is the color/design. For example whether there are many ads on it, whether it looks organized or not. Such. Ofcourse the topic must be interesting, if a page is nice but not in my interest, I'll leave it as well. It's good to think (a long time) about a name, and ask a few people how they feel about it before you take it. But then the other things come as well- as said, the topic, design etc. If you forget that, it sounds as if you're just blaming your site's impopularity on the "weird Japanese minds" that judge on ID names only.

the point is when i made the site, i thought everthing was so cool and could not see it through the eye of "visitor with different bias". then was able to consider this: "let us forget the spiders and take down the whole site".

the point: made the site, thought it was cool, but not to see it through
the eye of "visitor with different bias".
then, "let us forget the spiders and take it down".

made the site and it was cool.
the impression of "visitor with different bias".
then, let "us" forget the spiders and take it down.

ҁBperson. یBto protect.
iBto defend. ҁBperson.

the original meaning: "defender of man". it was the meaning "people"? (defender of people).

iҁB (defender) do not know, if an "imperialistic" (to defend an empire) name is appreciate for a foreign person.

Oh, and another note...

I don't mind when you post in the wrong section, but could you please refrain from creating THE SAME POST in two different threads?
It's very annoying for us to have to clean up after you because you are lazy.

Thanks again.
