I have mentioned this before on previous posts and I don't want to sound like a shill, but if you really want to know a lot more about dorama, you should get the book The Dorama Encyclopedia, written by Jonathan Clements and Motoko Tamamuro, published by Stone Bridge Press. Not only does the book give you the history of Japanese TV drama, but it has info on most of the Jdramas broadcast from 1953 to 2003. Not just the titles (the original Japanese one spelled in romanjin and its English equivalent) and when a particular series aired, but also the name of the network, the director, the producer, the screenwriter, the leading cast members, the theme song and who sang it, a description of what the series is about, and even if that series was televised in the U.S. There's also an index of foreign TV shows which aired in Japan (examples: The Dukes of Hazzard was called Bakuhatsu! Duke, which, translated back into English, means Explode! Duke; Charlie's Angels was called Chijo Saikyo no Bijotachi Charlie's Angel {Strongest Beautiful Women in the World, Charlie's Angel}). I have found this book to be an invaluable resource in figuring out what Jdramas I might find interesting to watch and which ones of those might have English subtitles.

First of all, this is truly an amazing site. Props to whoever came up with the idea and maintains it. I am looking forward to contribute (mostly paypal donations since I am new to jdrama and doubt I have much to share)
As you can see this is my first post.
I hope some of you are kind enough as to help me out here.
(I have read the stickys and searched around, but I could not find any specific thread with this identical question)
I've recently finished watching my first Japanese drama, and it was non other than "1 Litre of Tears" and truthfully I have never seen such an amazing series ever. Normally I don't like watching dramas (no matter the language) since the acting is usually terrible and it doesn't do anything for me. However, I am proud to say I shed a tear for the first time in my life to a series/movie/drama etc. (I have seen stuff from people getting shot in real life, to watching a poor puppy killed by a car, to autopsies, etc. and I don't even flinch)
Now, after watching this series I am hoping there are other stuff out there as good as 1 Litre of Tears. I am asking if any of you could recommend a series they like(favorite). However, this time I want to recover from such a sad story, and want the opposite; a very happy (not necessarily a comedy) young, teenager (I guess) type of series. Something that is uplifting and fun to watch.
Note 1: I am guessing it will be along the lines of a high school story(love story etc.) but hey, after watching 1 Litre of Tears, I have to say Japanese directors and story writers have quite a view on things, so hey SURPRISE ME.(bring on the interesting topic)
Note 2: I am not sure how it is in Japan but if it's like most american dramas/series, then females are the prime target audience. Therefore, I am hoping whatever you recommend isn't something to girlish. (nothing wrong with it, but as a guy I don't like to see a guy 90% of the story, would preffer a girl if you get what I mean)
Hope that didn't come out rude or rubbish.
Thank You Very Much.
I really appreciate any help, and sorry to bother.

Well, I made a thread with this same post. However, I am thinking the reason I've gotten no reply is because I was not sopposed to make that thread. I guess it fits better here...

I think GTO or Last Christmas would get you going on that

If you want some humor in romance. Definately Densha Otoko. Good heads up for you. The male character is pretty much who see most through each ep, but its just too funny. The girl he falls for is played by Itoh Misaki

Thank you so much, I really appreciate the help. KT TRan (you seem to know your dramas well Shindou thank you as well for your choices I am looking forward to watching them.
Currently downloading Orange Days.
Trying to get Hana Yori Dango (something about it appeals to me, but could be wrong hehe)
And also trying to download Pride (wow it got some amazing reviews)
On another note, is there a Japanese series that depicts real Japan? (cause we all love these dramas to be real, perfect love and all, but is there anyone out there that demonstrate how the real Japanese college, life, etc is?)
Note:Anyone knows how to work D-addicts? I can't seem to get the torrent file(or am I just not spotting it, I simply cant seem to find the torrent link)
Thank You Very Much. _________________

Only College drama I came across so far was Orange Days.
DragonZakura is about a lawyer who is trying to get students from this high school with the lowest national test score (or something like that) to test into Tokyo University. This is quite interesting too.
There's more high school dramas then college ones.
Over at D-addicts, you should be able to see the word "Torrent" click on that and you enter there torrents section _________________

yeah it looks so much cooler when you're a guy with a large, dead burmese rat slung around your shoulders...gives off that manly vibe....and for some strange reason attracts ppl offering you free cheese to sample....even on the streets.
ppl coming up to you singing...it's "crumbelievable"
