I haven't seen that yet, but from the synopsis, I don't see the obvious similarities between the two...

No there not similar at all...
Hotaru no Hikari is closer in nature to a Densha Otoko...except the hapless protagonist is a woman, not a man.

I think both shows are based on manga but that's about the only similarity I can see. A lot of ppl like Hotaru no Hikari...I didn't so much...it's pretty popular but nowhere near as popular as Nodame Cantabile, for obivous, good reasons.

Maybe because of the stars and less so for the story/plot...

Yeah it has 3 pretty famous actors...Ayase Haruka, Ryoko Kuninaka, and Naohito Fujiki.
The story....what story....hehe. There really was no story.

HAHA...nah that WAS pure crap...I stopped watching after a few episodes...that has got be the dumbest show I've ever seen...it was even panned by journalists....it was worthless. Hotaru was much better than that although, as I implied, it seemed like a bite off of Densha Otoko...which was much better. Again a lot of ppl like Hotaru because of the performances I guess, as there wasn't much of a plot.
Funny thing about GalCir and Hotaru is they both star Naohito Fujiki...

Yup. His role in Hotaru was decidedly different. Quite the opposite in fact. The show rests on the interaction of his character and Ayase Haruka's...the supporting cast did not add much for the most part.

No Ueno Juri and no classical music.

Bang on! Hotaru no Hikari was quite enjoyable while it lasted, which wasn't long. Nodame Cantabile, on the other hand, is something you go back to a lot of times.

So I have hope after all? Hotaru no Hikari sounds like a fun one though. I'm going to try and get it one of these days.. _________________

A convert? Actually, I've been wanting to see this for a while now, but haven't gotten around to getting it, other than a few episode downloads. _________________
