I came to Jdramas some weeks ago because I was looking for the live-action version of "Attack No 1".
Since then I watched the usual recommendations like Gokusen, GTO, Ichi Ritoru no Namida and Nobuta wo Produce.
But yesterday I found "Life" and it blew my socks off! Just so much better than anything before.
This is the kind of a drama western TV would not show. And that is exactly what I want: interesting shows with great plots and deep characters. Conversely, I don't get much of the Japanese humor, I could not care less about idols and love dramas become boring quite quickly for me.
So my "Amazon" question to you is: People that loved "Life" also like the following dramas...

I loved LIFE btw
Oh you'd love The Queens Classroom "Jyoō no Kyōshitsu" basically about a teacher who bullys her students. It's an amazing drama like LIFE and every episode I was always suprised this was aired on tv?! The characters in Queens Classroom are in deph just like life.
Another would be Ame to Yume no Ato ni its a very sad and interesting dorama! Perfect acting! The story is just very unusal and diffrent
Watashitachi no Kyokasho is also a very good school drama its not all fun and teenie like gokusen and etc. its a very intense drama and you don't really know whos good or bad and the actors and actresses do a very good job!
Iguana no musume is probley the most unusal drama I have ever seen but Miho Kanno does an amazing performence and I think we can all realte to her character in trying to find ourselfs!
Now if you want to try a dorama this year I suggest Aishiteru its still airing and isn't done subtitling but so far its amazing and thats what I love is real drama!

Not one of them is near the Top 50, so without you, I would never found them. So thanks again.
You've got to take that Top 50 list with a grain of salt. I just went thru it and 24 of those dramas I've never seen. And what kind of a Top 50 list doesn't have Odoru Daisasousen or Yasashi Jikan or, , , well, you get the idea, everybody has different tastes and it just takes awhile to figure what you like and what you don't. Anyway, enjoy!
or Kekkon Dekinai Otoko, or Medaka, or Ashita no Kita Yoshio, or, , ,
The Top 50 list is a popularity contest, plain and simple, not an indicator of quality.
Yes, IMHO this site could do a better job at recommendations if it would make better use of its database.
I mean there are hundreds of ratings and profiles that are basically ignored. For starters, one could easily get a top list of dramas for everybody who rated a given drama 8 or higher for example. Or you could add categories / tags to the dramas, so a "love drama" page would give other "love drama" recommendations and so on. The most complicated (but also most effective) way would be to compare whole profiles, if there are people who rated my favorites high and my least favorites low as well, I will probably enjoy there other favorite dramas I have not seen yet and so on.

True, but you possibly could have the same problem: people "ballot stuffing" the ratings.

Good suggestions... You might want to post them in the Suggestions forum.
But truth to tell, I don't know if the Admin has the time (or the motivation) to implement these types of features.

I've seen 7 of them, some not all the way through but then, you've seen a lot more than me.
Hey I was hoping for a recommendation on future Dramas. I am a male and I'm not rich so all these dramas I've tried with the 'rich snob' stereotype male leads just don't appeal to me. BUT I still do like romance. I watched Kekkon Dekinai Otoko and it was the first drama that I liked start to finish. Basically I'm looking for a romance/comedy series that isnt completely unoriginal. I just want to be able to relate to the main male lead lol.
I also was able to get through Proposal Daisakusen, though that male lead bugs me for some reason. Maybe cause he has this 'tough guy' image that seems kinda fake to me. And I'm on the second season of "Trick" now. It would be perfect if there was more of a romance subplot between the characters. Oh I also enjoyed Long Vacation too...
A classic example of the type of show I can't stand is Boys Over Flowers.

Maybe I'm too picky...
Hope someone can help me out, thanks
Wow you have almost the same tastes that i have(iLm also a male), i also hated Hana Yori Dango and Proposal Daisakusen.
And Long Vacation is one of the 6 doramas i rated 10(based on my own preferences).
From your post i think youLll like Boku Dake no Madonna, Densha Otoko, Slow Dance, Sapuri and Tatta Hitotsu no Koi.
Probably One Pound no Fukuin, but that one is more comedy than romance.
You can read the comments i made about them in my profile.
...humm now that i look Kame allways plays the poor guy with no chances lol.
