This is a really cool photo... Noriko, hanging out with Jackie Chan. So teddy bears do work!!!!!!

It would be neat to see Noriko in a Jackie Chan movie! First there were Bond girls... There should be "Chan girls"!!!!!

Just captured yesterday (9/6/2004).... Fujisankei News Express aired this 2.5-minute news piece on Noriko-chan. In it, she receives some surfing lessons. She can REALLY hang-ten!!!!!!!!!!

http://groinksvr1.no-ip.org/fujisankei/Fujisankei_20040906_SakaiNoriko.avi

Requires DivX 5 video codec. 21.4MB. Japanese spoken, no subtitles.

Groink, where can I get a DivX 5 codec? Confused

Downloaded 21.4 MB is 34 seconds, you have a fast connection to your server.

Never mind, found and installed the codec. Thanks for posting the link! Smile

A lot of the photos here don't show up on my PC...

Groink,
Do you have any good Valentine's related photos of Noriko?

Thanks,

Valentine's photos? What would something like that look like?? Normally, when you have Valentine's Day photos of a loved one, well.... let's just say you wouldn't want anyone else looking at them!!! LOL! I'll see what I can come up with...

Thanks!

Since you mentioned that her birthday is February 14th, figured I'd put her in my upcoming calendar for February if I can find a Valentine's related picture of her.

This is more likely old news for some of you...

Production of "Premonition" Completed

The production of "Premonition", the second J-Horror Theater film partially funded by Entertainment FARM, has been completed. The film is scheduled for release by Toho on October 2, 2004.

"Premonition", based on the "Kyofu Shimbun(Newspaper of Terror)" comic book by Jiro Tsunoda, was directed by Norio Tsuruta and produced by Taka Ichise. The screenplay was written by Noboru Takagi and Norio Tsuruta with music by Kenji Kawai. It stars Hiroshi Mikami, Noriko Sakai, Maki Horikita, Mayumi Ono, Kei Yamamoto, and Kazuko Yoshiyuki.

Please visit the official website for more details: http://www.j-horror.com/

Cool, Kei and Noriko-chan re-unite for the first time since they worked together on Hitotsu Yane no Shita 1 and 2.

This is a pretty cool image... It's a scan of an actual ticket to the premiere of Noriko's new movie Premonition...

Collecting tickets to her events is one of the things I collect of hers. I also have tickets from her Broadway-like plays including Cinderella and Big, as well as tickets from almost every tour she went on (Magical Montage, Work Out Fine, etc.)

Groink,
What do you recommend watching among Noriko's non-depressing doramas?

Heaven's Coins 1 sounds good but too heavy to deal with at present.

Thanks,

I think Noriko-chan specializes in dramas that involve depressing themes. Heaven's Coins 1 is one of those "essentials" for all wanna-be Japanese drama fans. It's sort of like calling yourself a nerd but never read any Douglas Adams books. Oops!

Heaven's Coins 2 is even MORE depressing, but still it's on the essentials list. Under the Same Roof is very light on the depression scale, even though it has its moments where you end up crying more than An-chan. UTSR 2 I found to be a so-so watch. There's an occurance in that series I'm REALLY upset about, but don't want to give away any details here (avoid spoilers). When the Saints come Marching In made me so angry about the way physically-challenged people are treated, I literally watched the entire series in one sitting. It did, however, end on a very good note. Mukodono 2003 is a total waste of time, really... The first series (no Noriko-chan in it) was much better.

So with that... The only series I can really recommend is Toshiie to Matsu. However, it's 40+ episodes long, though it's very much worth the time put into the series because it's a very nice looooooooooong love story (and watching Matsushima Nanako in a kimono is nice as well hehe ). Tenshi ga kieta machi is also a good watch, though the rating of that series among JDorama.com people is so-so.

As I've mentioned to others before, I really don't think Noriko-chan is a good actress. There are dozens more I'd rather recommend over her. I think it's my responsiblity to critique my religion, and in some cases I don't always have good things to say about her. The one thing I don't like about her acting is that in just about every series she's done, she plays Sakai Noriko!!!! And, in the few where she does actually change her character, it's a mediocre attempt. Her role as Kuramoto Aya is to me the only great role she ever played in, probably because she worked her pretty arse off preparing for that role.

I still love her as a JPOP singer, but I guess the Japanese entertainment industry requires that all Japanese entertainers participate in all facets of the industry (TV, movies, music, photo books, CMs, PVs, calendars, etc.)

Okay, end of Noriko 101!!!! Beaten

I've actually met the late Douglas Adams, at a reading he did at UCSD around 1984. He autographed my copy of Restaurant at the End of the Universe, which unfortunately has been long since lost. Amusingly, there were many young towel-waving college students in the front row mosh-pit as it were.

Photos of the JU-ON: The Grudge 2 premiere, held in Japan on 11/23/2003. According to one article I read, the movie scared the living bejesus out of her kid...

I guess Noriko can now be considered the new J-Horror girl (JU-ON 2 and Premonition in less than a year). Shocked

Does anyone here read Chinese traditional? The only thing I can get out of this is that it appears Noriko's marriage is being challenged, with her husband supposedly cheating on her. Lemme at 'em, LEMME AT 'EM!!!!!
