It's not ok in my book.
They're still even using Chinese to play Japanese. Rolling eyes

!
at least they got an asian playing an asian part. would you be p_$$ if they have a JPN playing a CHN part? Tamalyn Tomita played a CHN in joy luck club, Cary Hirayuki something played the CHN bad guy in mortal combat, and that's just off the top of my head. I don't have a problem with that tho. They are asian.

I think that they should have Japanese playing Japanese and Chinese playing Chinese. Especially if there are Japanese or Chinese dialogue involved! Do you hear me Lucy Liu??????!!!

altho that is a VERY good example, some people might not know the diff between chn/jpn. if you were to put in a white girl to play a native asian part, totally different.

I hear that her JPN is bad, but since she is born int the US (am i right?) maybe her chinese is not so great as well.

some how I am reminded of that white guy (not trying to be racist or anything) that keeps appearing in Hkdramas, I think he's the only one that is fluent (somewhat?) in cantonese so they keep using him. I'm sure you will know who I am talking about if you have some contact with hkdramas

The practice of non-Asians playing Asians was a common thing in Hollywood back in the early 1900's. Look at Charlie Chan, the Chinese detective from the 1930's... Through the years, three caucasian actors played the character (Warner Oland, Sidney Toler, and Roland Winters). And Katherine Hepburn played the role of a Chinese woman in Dragon Seed (1944).

And even today... Just look at Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. Shake Head Need I say more? LOL!!!!!

kung pow was a comedy so i guess i can let it slide. but hepburn? carridine? C.Chan wannabe's? they were supposed to be legitimate films. BTW carridene didn't make fung fu not too long ago, in the mid-1970's.

I heard some rumors about this also. There is a spring special though. As for subbing, I wouldn't mind Big Grin
