Akira Ifukube - Godzilla vs. Mothra (Main Title)...

Wonderful use of lietmotif in this...particularly enjoyed the inclusion of the Shobijin song...Nagasawa Masami was half of the Shobijin in one of the later Mothra movies...

Much has been said in the Nodame Cantabile thread about newfound or renewed interest in Western Classical Music, and understandably so...

Let's start...I've been a fan of WCM since I was a teenager...one of the first pieces i loved was Ralph Vaughn Williams'--The Lark Ascending...

here's a two part video of an excellent performance of that piece...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbcuteYm-EA&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsOOQB0uA5Q&feature=related

For Youtube, the video and audio quality is quite remarkable...

Here's a downloadable copy of The Lark Ascending...

Thank you for starting this interesting thread.

I started listening to WCM since high school - that's over 30 years ago. I still remember the first time I tried to record a radio broadcast - it was Beethoven's 'Pastoral' (#6) Symphony. I'm really a 'pop' classic kind of guy and Nodame Cantabile has opened up some previously unexplored territory, such as Rachmaninoff, for me.

thtl...Have you ever seen the Disney movie Fantasia...it might be the ultimate tribute to WCM...the Pastoral was just perfect...

Most certainly I did. It was the first visual representation of WCM. They even managed to put on a visual for abstract music (i.e. without a 'real world' theme) such as Bach's Fugue and Toccata. I love that movie/animation.
