Total ripoff for a clueless American audience. Watch the original, folks.

it does feel a little hollywood-ish, but i can't tell off the top of my head what movie that sounds like. I got another one tho, do you remember the J-Flick called white out, starring nanako matsushima? i kinda liked it, but it seems like the J-version of die hard (w/ willis)., or maybe even cliffhanger with stallone.

Ahhh, yes, White Out (let's not forget the Oda Yuji was in that one too!).

American remake of Japanese flims are just disgusting, depressing and amusing. Look at RING and GRUDGE~ I was laughing my head off watching the SAME thing with WHITE cast and different house... *duh*

It seems The Grudge unsurprsingly took the number one position at the box office this weekend making $40 million! Well, I think if that's any indication, it would seem that not only are Japan themed movies hot in Hollywood but they're also hot across the whole country. The film did twice as well as the production company had expected, and I'm pretty sure this is as much as 4 times what the Ring did on opening weekend. Although the reason that movie was such a hit was because of its word of the mouth promotion and also it's repeat viewing value. Because I've heard that the Grudge is more of a horror film that relies on the initial shock value, I've heard that the movie probably won't be as consistent and won't have the same number of repeat viewings that the Ring had so it will be hard for The Grudge to top it. But hey, if it does, I see nothing wrong with that. At least it will encourage them to buy up more Japanese properties, in some form at least, even if it's not the original version, and Japanese properties will become even more coveted in Hollywood. We'll just have to wait and see if The Grudge can build on the success of the Ring and become an even bigger hit. I still haven't seen the film myself yet even though I was going to, but it seems like EVERYONE was talking about that movie today in all my classes. It's this kind of buzz that The Grudge needs.

I saw on www.quicktime.com that "Dark Water" and "The Ring 2" is being filmed in America. Aside from more and more horror movies being made in America even classic movies like "Shall we Dance" was reproduced.

What do you think about it? Personally I didn't like "The Ring (American-version)" and I doubt i'll be seeing the rest of the remakes.

That's interesting. I would rather watch the original versions with subs but I am well aware that most of the people I know refuse to watch subbed movies, and the alternative is dubbed which I really can't stand (With the exception of some anime which I don't mind being subbed that much). So given the choices I think it is wise for the American public as a whole. It's really a pity though. I saw the U.S. version of the Ring and it was o.k. but give me the original any day. I never saw the Grudge so I can't comment on that remake of Ju-on.
